(OOC: This thread is a very important change in the Roth character. It’s reserved for Jayr. Spectators are allowed, but only to watch. I don’t want anyone to interfere with this so if you want to post your presence feel free, but please no interruption. Thank You.)
What was a man without internal conflict. What was a choice if there was no other option. That was Roth’s dilemma. Was there a choice? Of course there was, but a difficult choice at that. Option 1: Obey his master Esau and live luxuriously under his command. Option 2: Fight back and most likely die, perhaps in vain. He was doing both right now, as Roth he was in Option 1 following the names and files of Esau’s list taking out a good deal of fighters here. So far he had been under the radar taking down names on the list. Many of them weren’t important, but over time Roth had taken out about a seventh of the school. He was diminishing the zergling rush factor.
He knew in time however he would have to get more public with his reluctant villainy. He was going to have to take out someone big, and quickly. He didn’t want to, but a good portion of the lesser names on Esau’s List were already down and out. Next up were the big fish. Names like Leon Sudeki, David Blaze, and Gabriel Seran. He wasn’t ready for them yet, not without tactics and in secrecy. He knew that the next one was going to have to be public. That’s when he got the call. Roh picked up the phone and read the name aloud.
“Esau.”
Roth picked up the phone and answered it reluctantly. Honestly he didn’t want to know what he had to say. There were plenty of things his boss could be pissed off about. He wasn’t doing his job well enough, he hadn’t made a big enough mark, he was still viewed as a good guy, that he went back home to Boston to find the graves of his entire family. That was the big one, that he knew that little fact. Lastly there was the fact of Blacksmoke. That under that black motorcycle helmet he was fighting as he wanted to.
“Rothy-boy. How you doing?”
“Alright. You?”
“Heh. You and me, we’ve known each other of months now, and yet that right there is the first time you’ve asked me how I am. Funny. Now, I’ve been watching your progress at 259 and I must say I’m impressed. A great deal of students are out of the picture. But it’s time to move on to bigger fish in the pond.
Now I know you have the list and you’ve been taking down names at your discretion, but this time I want you to take down a particular someone on my order.
The name is Jayr Byrne. I assume you know her well enough joining up with her Student Liberation Front or some shit. Stupid idea, giving kids the power to rule themselves will only lead to chaos, just like the Pillar system. Both are useless. That aside, I’m giving you the assignment to take her down at all costs. Today. No excuses no exceptions. Is that clear?
Oh, and I got some of your test results back. It seems my estimation from earlier was…off. You have three months until your heart gives out. You and I both know I’m the only man who can assure you a new heart. So, I suggest you take down Jayr. No questions asked. Understood, Rothy-boy?”
Roth’s heart had sunk completely. The first drop had come when Esau had uttered the name of Jayr Byrne. She was someone Roth had truly cared for as of late. He didn’t have many friends in this world, and he had absolutely no family left either. Now this man, Esau, was threatening to take away one of Roth’s last glimmers of hope for a better future. On top of that he no longer had the few years of life he thought he did. Now he had mere months. This caused him to drop straight to his knees. A few tears trickled down his face, but he man no sounds of a cry of whimper. Just tears.
“Yes.”
“Good. I expect to hear back from you when the job is done. Oh, and while I have your attention theres a man running around the campus in a ridiculous costume calling himself Blacksmoke. I’m not completely sure who he his yet, but if you see him around dispose of him too. Even a cocky kid in a costume could be a potential threat.”
With those last words the line cut dead. Roth dropped the phone to the floor knocking out the battery. This was the heaviest bow he had ever endured. It hurt worse than the countless falls and battles he had taken put together. He had to take Jayr out of the picture, or die. At this point he was a broken man. Did he obey Esau and live as a personal soldier, or fight back and refuse his orders knowing an untimely death would soon follow. Roth just didn’t know what to do. His head was spinning in a million and one directions. He would close his eyes for just a moment before being awoken by a large bang of Marcus rushing through the door.
“Roth! Roth I got the message from Esau. Is he serious? Does he really want us to take her out?”
“Yeah…”
“Well… what do we do man?”
The tears continued to fall from his eyes no matter how hard Roth would try to wipe them away. He knew what he had to do. He was strong enough to take on Esau just yet. He would have to obey the order.
“We obey Marcus. As much as I don’t like it, we obey.”
Roth would slowly rise up grabbing his phone and it’s battery as he did so. Placing the battery back in the phone Roth would wait a moment to let it charge up and turn back on. As it did he would begin to text a message to Jayr. Something inconspicuous that would no doubt draw her attention to meet him.
“Jayr. Meet me at the center of the courtyard at 12:00pm. We need to talk. –Roth”
If she chose to follow those instructions Roth's plan would enter step one. In the center of the courtyard was a large 20 x 20 foot ring. Three ropes connecting the squared circle. It was similar to a MMA, Wrestling, or Boxing ring. Inside that ring was Roth wearing a pair of long loose wrestling pants (not spandex) with his name running down the side in red over the black pants. this was his uniform in San Diego when he would fight.
The ring's presence drew in quite a crowd already, but they had no idea what to expect now. Roth had been ordered to fight Jayr and take her out of the picture. He felt this wasn't something he could, or should do in the shadows in one fell swoop. If he was going to do this it was going to be public. He needed to entire school to know that in this story Jayr Byrne was the hero and Roth O'Roak was the villain. No matter how much Roth wished it wasn't true, this was how it was going to be.
