A new Eden (Xapham)

[Lucifer]

Lucifer and Xapham would blink into existence in what appeared to be a peaceful and well-maintained park. The grass neatly trimmed, a small creek with a footbridge over it. In the distance, people could be seen tossing a disk and laughing without a care in the world. In Lucifer's arms rested a baby and clinging to the bottom of one of his wings a small girl peeked out from behind him at Xapham.

"In this world, the war never happened. It is more or less peaceful. A chance to see what could have been if the bombs had not been dropped. And for a time it will be a safe haven, free of the dangers that you have come to know and to expect.  A chance for the innocents you saved to grow and have a chance at a real life."

[Xapham]

Xapham looked around at the world around him. Hardly believing his eyes... This... this world had been destroyed ages ago... He could hardly believe it. So many questions ran through his head... Then he would turn to his uncle.

"Did I... am I dead?"

[Lucifer]

"No, not yet."

He'd say, gently rocking the sleeping baby in his arms. The little girl behind him once more hiding behind his wings before slowly and bravely peeking out again at Xapham and the sky above them.

[Xapham]

Xapham noting the children would look to Lucifer.

"Are... these the only two saved?"

He would say a little let down...

[Lucifer]

"No, the others have been placed in orphanages across this world. These two I will be watching over personally."

[Xapham]

"Oh why is that?"

Xapham asked curiously as he knelt down to wave at the curious little girl.

[Lucifer]

The girl quickly hid once more, but her little fingers tightening on Lucifer's wings could still be seen.

"They have a touch of Destiny. I would not entrust that to chance."

[Xapham]

Xapham chuckled at the girl as he stood back up. He wasn't sure what his uncle was talking about... but that didn't really surprise him. Lucifer had always been full of his secrets.

"Where... are we exactly? And what did you mean by safe for the time being?"

[Lucifer]

"This is Central Park, I assumed you would be most comfortable in the geographical region that Prota occupied in your old world."

He motioned to the park with his hand.

"And I mean what I said. Your world is not the first to have ended the way it has, nor will it be the last. Eventually, this world too will have the gaze of The others upon it. But for now, it is safe."

[Xapham]

Xapham let out a dry chuckle.

"I appreciate the thought uncle, but I had no love for Prota, or even Raikotsu for that matter. My only want was to he near the grave of my beloved. But now, he is gone for good."

Xapham hung his head. But took a breath.

"Still, if this world is bound for an apocalyptic event... is there any way we could prevent it?"

[Lucifer]

"It is possible but unlikely. Humanity..."

He smirked.

"Is flawed. By your very nature, you are imperfect beings, prone to squandering your gifts, your love, and your lives away. No single one of you could stand against what fate will come. As for my own power, should I do the same and fall then there will be no place to run from light and shadow."

[Xapham]

That was an answer that Xapham understood all too well. He nodded.

"Then probably best not to try and prevent the inevitable and instead prepare for it."

Xapham looked at the children that Lucifer was holding and sighed.

"I would hope that such precious ones would never have to see the horrors of humanity that I have seen. Or commit the atrocities that I have done in the belief of righteousness."

He shook his head.

"As much as I would like to use this opportunity you have given me to find peace at last... I can not willfully sit by and do nothing when more innocent lives are at risk. I know I can't save everyone... but isn't one more saved life worth a world of difference?"

That's what he wanted to believe anyways...

[Lucifer]

Lucifer nodded, preparation was more realistic than prevention. Unfortunately.

"And which life will you save?"

[Xapham]

"I... honestly don't know Uncle. This world is new, my knowledge is back to the same level as child. Here I could try to save someone from what I believe is wrong and what this world might call just..."

He turned to Lucifer.

"How do I know if what's right is really right? Do I go by the laws I know? The laws of this world? Or by laws that I don't even yet know?"

[Lucifer]

"That depends, do you judge right and wrong by the laws of man? Or by other criteria?"
