"Because I am very well aware of the possible problems us being here could cause... and instead of trying to start a fight with you, or your men, or in the city, I came here to ask you why. Respectfully."
Leif stared at Rai, before leaning over to put a cigarette out.
"Plus, I'm willing to help you out. Not necessarily on your paid endeavors, but... it sounds like your side and my side are pretty similar. I've fought in the wars back home, and I'd rather not see them start up again here."

Rai watched Leif for a moment thinking. Breaking down his thoughts and coming to conclusions. Finally he would reach into his desk and pull out the Mask Avice had given him, and he would toss it on the table.
"That. Touch it."
If she did so she would immediately feel the power inside the mask, it was as if she were completely in touch with her latent Qi, for the first time since appearing on this world she felt like she was as powered up as she would feel back home! The Energy in this mask seemed almost limitless...

Leif stared at the mask for a moment. Was this a trick of some kind? She glanced back up at him. If she was expecting him to trust her, however... she would have to trust him. It was only fair. She took a deep breath, then reached out to press her fingertips against the mask.
The shock of the Qi was almost calming, in a way. She made a soft noise, one akin to pleasure, and blue lightning flashed between her fingers. She closed her eyes, the feeling of electricity crackling through her blood enough to chase away that creeping darkness that had dulled her mind. More than home, she felt almost like herself again, and a smile spread across her face. Then, suddenly, she opened her eyes and pulled back, and the electricity crackled out and died once again.
She shivered, almost violently.
"Have... people been siphoning off the Qi, here? Shoving it into items like this? Qi is a limited resource... we prove that every day, when we begin to use too much. So did somebody, like... take the Qi from this world and... trap it?"

He shrugged.
"I honestly don't know but that is a very, very, good guess."
He would say honestly.
"Would you like to know why I say that?"

She nodded, wiggling her fingers and staring at them for a moment. She took a deep, shuddering breath, as she felt her blood return to its new normal. She turned her gaze back to Rai, but they were suddenly sharper, suddenly more focused.

He would hold up a hand wiggling his fingers, and then he would pull out a knife and slice open his hand! However just as the blood started to pour out his hand it would stop, recede back into his hand and the cut would seal shut.
"This happened to me after only holding the mask for an afternoon."

Leif stared at his hand, not flinching as he cut it open. She nodded, thoughtfully, as she contemplated the implications of what he said.
"What we call Qi is... Well, its what we call it, but its just latent potential in our bodies, and in the world around us. Looks like it exists here, too. Just..." She gave a little shrug.
"What is going to happen, once Qi comes here?"

"My assumption? I'm betting more and more non-meta's are going to lose that title and classification... and when that happens..."
He didn't need to finish that sentence because it was painful obvious to him how the rest of the world would react to finding out that the meta's were "contagious".

Leif sighed softly and nodded.
"And when that happens, we are going to be seen as the new plague, and the only way to keep the children safe is to be to hunt down and eradicate every last one of the original Metas. Which will be extremely easy, considering we are all limited to a single city."
Not that they would go down easily. It would start an all-out war.

"Not that anyone here would go down that easily. It would turn into an all out war. Yes."
He nodded glad that someone else realized just how bad the situation can be.

Leif sighed softly. She glanced down at her knees, drumming her fingers idly on her sides as she contemplated the problem. It made sense that people would want to isolate the Meta population to a single city, especially with the obvious divide in the non-Meta populace... but it was going to make it that much easier to start breaking them down, one by one.
"Do you have a plan to keep the Metas safe?"

"Not a sure fire one."
He would admit.
"Honestly my hope is that enough of your people will show the potential good you can do for this world, if y'all can be seen protecting this people and it's citizens then people might see the transition into becoming Meta's a good thing and not something to fear."

"Well, you have a vigilante on the streets, protecting the weak... but most of us seem to just keep to ourselves. I think that's what we're all used to, honestly."
She gave a slight shrug of her shoulders.
"Do you need help?"

Rai scoffed knowing of the individual she was referring to.
"Vigilante... right... well, I'm not sure I would call what they are doing 'useful' per se as making a larger mess."
He sighed.
"As for help, I can use more of it every day."
He would say honestly.

"What kind of help do you need?"
Leif leaned back, pulling out her Zippo lighter. She began to flick the lighter open and closed. It seemed like it was a better thing to do than to just play with her bioelectricity, especially in a place like this.
