Kate loved games...or use to. Back in New York, back when things had been fun. She hadn't played them since. She still remembered when Vale had kicked her ass in the fighting game. Maybe DDR would be an easier way to beat him?
"We could wait in... line...for DDR, but I'm up for a shooting game like House of the dead as well. Up to you Vale."
She stood there smiling, looking over the games and the people. Was this what it was like to have a normal life? Even with the talk of goats and eyeballs? Possibly. A normal life sounded wonderful to her.
You know...the entire normal life. A normal dating life! A normal guy, with an easy, normal relationship. Where the end result was loving each other, taking care of each other, marriage and kids.
Except she was already having kids...so any guy she ended up dating would have to live with that. And that was a depressing thought...because most wouldn't date a single mom. Even if she was a blonde bombshell with a cocky side. Nope. And the guys she tended to like were anything but normal!
"Well Vale, what do you want to do?"
And Vale was just a friend. Even if he was her best friend she'd never let go of. It was still, just friends.

"Those zombies don't stand a snowballs chance in hell."
He was already over by the machine, pumping in quarters. The gun was in his hands, and he was just waiting for her so the game could start. He was totally ready to own some zombies in the face and eyes. Whatever else the game threw at him, would just have to be shot in the center of mass before he figured out it's weak point.
"Been... a couple weeks since I've held a gun. But this is plastic... and attached... going to be difficult."
You wonder what shooting games back in Serbia were like.

You had to wonder what kind of shooting games Vale had been playing. Honestly. Every shooting game Kate had played had been with plastic and attached guns. In fact, she had never held a real gun in her hands.
Kate walked over and quickly picked up the other gun, knowing the drill with these games. Head shots were always the best... and they tended to give you clues on where to shoot on bosses. She just grinned as the game did the opening scene.
"I think we can kill 'em all in an hour...right?"

"If that. We still have to get snacks."
Don't forget the snacks. Headshot. Those are important, headshot. Two in the chest, one in the skull. Another head shot. Reloading. Headshot. He was getting used to the way the game was designed, and was growing more comfortable with the weapon, that he held it with one hand. Of course, like most games like this. He took care of the enemies on his side first. And if she still had Zombies to kill he'd help out.
"Does this game get harder?"
He asked out loud. Now you really wondered what kinds of games he played back home. Maybe with real guns, real bullets, and real baddies? First one to a hundred kills wins? You get shot you lose? That kind of thing?

Kate was handling herself just fine, if not with the speed Vale was going at. She killed most with head shots, just took a little longer getting them. Kate hadn't been raised the way Vale had.
"Yeah, more of 'em. Different kinds, more shots to kill even if you get head shots, bosses, throwing axes explosions... stuff like that."
Kate just kept shooting and reloading, missing every once in awhile when one moved suddenly on her. A growl escaped her, low enough for those around them to not hear...but loud enough for Vale. She didn't like to loose. Didn't like to miss. It was just Kate like to hate such a thing.

As if on cue, a flying axe came towards him, he shot at it, and popped a cap through the skull of the monster that tossed it. What a jerk! Throwing hatchets and such. Well, he knew she was right about the bosses when this big... armored... fuck came out of now where with an imp floating around it.
"What.. the fuck."
Now he was pissed off. The game was pulling all the stops. And it wasn't a panzer tank. It was a monster that was immune to his bullets! They bounced right off! What the hell! Ping ping ping!
"Dammit.... where's the weak point?"

Kate couldn't help but grin. The beast on the screen was indeed easy to beat if you know how. The little hints the game gave tended to help, or if you've played it before.
But instead of telling Vale any of this, the blonde just proceeded to kill it off. Kill off the imp and such. All while she had a sweet little smile on her face. Hey, she could catch up on points this way.
"Don't worry about it, I can take care of it for you!"
A laugh as she did indeed, finish the beast off. It was a game after all, one she had played many times before. A quick glance at her watch.... 40 minutes to go...

When the creature died, he could have sworn his brain exploded. She killed the little imp, which was the medium of the creature. The game took to a cut scene. And he felt like killing everyone on the screen. He had an idea, she knew the game better than he did. But he was a faster marksman. No doubt the game would get harder, and he was great at dealing damage to the hordes.
"Kate, you know the weakness' of the bosses, da? We could get a higher score if you worked the secrets of the game, and I dealt with the minions and such. Until the boss came up, where I'd be the major distraction?"
Sounded like a good plan, considering his limited knowledge of the game.

"I'm still killing minions...but sounds like a plan to me."
Kate just kept up the grin. No way was she going to let him take care of all the silly little minions. She'd take out as many as possible. The blonde was just like that.
"We got about 40 minutes until the movie starts... let's see what we can do, hmm?"
Kate grinned at him, and if he looked over he'd even see her wink. She was having a care free afternoon where she wasn't depressed or pissed off. It was rather nice.

He shrugged, and the game started back up again. He started firing, zombies and things started dropping. It was sheer pandemonium. Axes flew in end over end. The city that they were fighting through was apparently a mess. Valekin did not like having only six shots before having to reload. It was a nuisance.
"One thing I will not forget about the undead. They never.. seem to end."
Today was a good day. Kate was talking, and she was having fun. Therefore she was opening up. Which meant she was feeling better.

It was easy, unloading six shots into six different zombies. Every once in awhile it took two bullets, but otherwise she was downing them well now. A simple flick of the wrist to reload, and she was back killing more.
"At this rate I might catch up to you in points..."
A smile, but not a nice one. Kate was after all, competitive. Very much so. They still had about what... 30 minutes before it started? And yet the blonde felt she had all the time in the world to kick Vale's ass at this. All the time in the bloody world.

Had the game been some sort of shooter that dealt with things that just weren't supernatural. Like zombies, and imps being mediums for armor. He would probably, most definitely win. But at the rate she was catching up, he'd have to kill steal to win. Which just wasn't cool. Valekin wasn't that competitive. She knew the ins and outs of the game, and he didn't. It'd be logical if she won.
"No dice Kate. My score will be highest."
That's all he said to her little comment. Secretly he was plotting not to be an asshole and to let her catch up and win. She'd catch up most on the bosses, while he just fired away at their chests or something. Waiting for her to find the weak point, and hammer on it.

His comment only spurred her on. Kate was done talking, all there was now was concentrating on the kills. One after another, catching up to Vale. Her last couple of years had also put this will in her...this desire to never loose. So maybe New York hadn't been the worst thing ever. Some good things could come out of it, right?
Shoot. Dead zombie. Shoot. Axe gone from flying at her head. Shoot. Barrel of gas...several zombies dead. Shoot. Another damned bat. Shoot. It's friend. Shoot. Another zombie. Reload and repeat.
Simple as that. It was very, very simple. Sometimes an odd ball was thrown at her...but it was handled. She would catch up to him. She would!!!

The thing that irritated him most about the game was; it didn't have a realistic firing time. With a revolver, he could pump off round after round in almost an instant, and here there was a cool down period. That pissed him off. As soon as he could fire again, he took out another creature. He was very quick on the reloading, very quick on the aiming, and firing. Almost all of his shots would land between the eyes of whatever he was shooting at.
The only issues were the bosses, they had peculiar weak points. This irked him to no end. It kept changing! First the medium, then the freaking center head, then the tail. It was turning into a real pain in the ass.
He almost shot a civilian, that would have cost him a life. That would have been bad. Considering that his first instinct in any combat situation is to kill first and ask questions later. Kill them all first, and ask about it afterwards. It'll be fine afterwards.

And then...the final boss. Kate was dead serious as she fired at the vital spots. Her bright eyes were narrowed and she concentrated on it. Nothing else mattered then...that final points to kick Vale's ass.
"..."
The fact it was less than ten minutes to the 'curtain call' of the movie. Kate didn't look at the time just kept firing. Sooner or later the thing would die...the blonde wanted to finish this game already.
