When Valekin woke up that morning he found that she was still asleep. Completely at peace. He got out of bed, and had walked over to the window, and stared out of the glass into the sunrise. His hair was a mess, and his skin was all clammy. What was worse was, he had some bad morning breath, and needed to come up with a means for breakfast.
Hmm breakfast.
He left his room and strolled the upper floor until he got into the kitchen. He rummaged through the refrigerator, which at no surprise to me, had more cooling chemicals than food. But the chemicals were sealed, so there was no need to worry. He grabbed a couple of eggs, and a bit of ham. The ham was chopped up, and cooked inside the eggs. Making two omelets, ham. Mmmmm. I wouldn't eat it. But Valekin had his, then put the other on a tray with a fork and knife. With a glass of milk, a napkin, and some salt and pepper.
All this he brought back out to Kate, who.. when he got there. Was still dozing.
"Breakfast."

Breakfast? It sounded good to her stomach, which growled loudly. She hadn't eaten since the day before's breakfast. But sleep was still calling her name. She pulled the pillow over her head, but her rumbling stomach kept up. The allure of food was just too great.
Pulling the pillow away from her face the pale girl sat up. Food. She felt like she could have eaten ANYTHING at all. But Vale had cooked up some good food by the smell of it. A grin was given to him as she reached out for it.
"Thank you almighty cook Vale-ness."
She had, at least for the moment, forgotten everything. That's just how she was when she first woke up. At least if there was food placed before her. And who wouldn't be? Good food means a good morning wake up!

"Almighty cook? Are you just saying that?"
He sat down on the floor then and pulled a briefcase out from under the bed. He flipped it open and started typing away on the console. He watched her carefully through his peripheral vision though, she could break down into tears at any moment. And considering what happened yesterday, he couldn't blame her.
"So how is it?"
Food is food is food. That's what he used to say back during the war. The boys would groan at what he would cook on the fly, which was whatever managed to be so unlucky as to wander into the traps, or whatever stores they had from a raid on a rebel town. Which usually wasn't much.

Well...he wasn't the best cook ever, but he was good enough! She just grinned at him, a light little chuckle escaping her. Soon enough reality would crash in around her mind...but for now she was happy. And who wouldn't be with food and their best friend?!?!
"Good enough for me! Thanks Vale, I was starving."
Kate finished off her plate and then set it down on the table beside her. A small twinge of pain flowed across her face. It hurt to move around. Why?
Her mind was still blank, she wasn't thinking about it. Almost like she wouldn't think about it. Not now, when the cracks were being held together by regular scotch tape when duct tape was needed. Her world would crumble once again. No...Kate just wanted to enjoy the moment, even if she didn't know she did.

"I wonder how well you cook. But, since that's good enough for you, I can cook for us from now on. Because you... might accidentally use something lethal in my fridge for some dish."
His eyes trailed off to the window. Feigning innocence. Of course he had volatile chemicals in his refrigerator, who didn't? In fact, he might have the most lethal refrigerator in Long Beach. Now that is something to be proud of. He tapped away at the keys, checking all the surveillance systems. No one had entered the factory while they slept. And the two of them were the only ones in the factory at the moment.
"Well, what do you want to do today?"

Oh right...he had always had odd things in his fridge. Funny, now that she thought about it. She smiled at him, and lay back down on the bed to relax. But it hurt... why did it hurt?
"Oh, I dunno... Did I have any plans for today?"
Thinking on it triggered something in her mind. Because she could only remember what she was suppose to do today... if she remembered what she had done the day before. Her world crashing upon her? Yup.
Those bright green eyes widened as she relived moments over the past 24 hours. Hiroko... maybe being pregnant... her mother. Kate was silent as the grave during this, barely even breathing. Reliving things were so hard for the blonde, she always....always blamed herself.

He didn't answer her question. Instead her facial expression changed, he figured she remembered what happened yesterday. A dire look crossed his face, and he gave a light tap onto the side of her face. Not hard, just a love tap. An attention grabber.
"What's done is done, there's nothing you can do about it. Stop blaming yourself."
He closed the briefcase, and pushed it under the couch. Then crawled closer to her, pushing the short table aside. He didn't look like a happy camper. But he wasn't one to hurt a friend. Memories boiled in his head.
"When I was in Serbia, my comrade stepped on a butterfly land-mine. Just as sure as your mother, I knew he was going to die. The choice was, was I going to stay there when his leg gave out from staying in position, or from the timer running out. Was I going to die with him? Obviously I didn't. I can't blame myself for what I did. And you can't blame yourself for what happened. Get a hold of your life now, while you can, before it can't be dredged from the bottom."
He shifted his weight in his position.
"Everything happens for a reason, Kate. I can protect you, and I can help you. But I can't live for you. Put yourself in this position; your in the middle of a fight, and your best friend gets shot. You don't have any time for grieving. For collapsing by his or her side, and crying. You have to move on before you get killed too. Snap out of it, and get a hold of yourself before I lose you too."

Everything happens for a reason? There was only one question in her mind as an answer for that. Then why did this happen? Kate couldn't find an answer, it wasn't staring at her in the face or anything. But then again, she had Vale. At least Vale was still here.
"Vale... if anything ever happened to you... I think I'd give up the will to live. Please... don't do anything crazy or stupid? Hmm?" She smiled just slightly. A will to live? The fact she had Vale was enough for her. At least for now, having her best friend was enough.
Did she know her best friend was a psycho who beat the crap out of people and ate them?!?! Nope. She basically knew nothing of that sort at all. The girl was blissfully unaware of it all. All she knew was, Vale was her everything now. Everything to her. Her best friend, and the only family she had. If it ever turned into anything more, than he'd really be more than everything to her. That's just how it was.

"I won't do anything stupid. Sometimes crazy things must be done for those you love. Right?"
He leaned up, and pecked her cheek, glad that someone worried about him. He didn't know what that really was like. To have someone to come home to that worried. Then he stood, and went to a dresser on the other side of the room. He got a shirt out of it, and put it on. Covering his scars, and tattoos.
"Do you need anything from your house? We should get your things if you're going to stay here with me for a while. As much as I love you Kate, I can't trust that you won't hurt yourself because of your grief. So until then. I won't allow you to be alone. Please understand."

She could understand. If Kate had been in Vale's shoes, she would have done the same exact thing. And if she was staying here for awhile...she'd need a lot of her things. After all, Kate was a girl use to the posh life of her house.
"Yeah... I need clothes, shampoo, conditioner... my ferret will die without me... maybe some of my booze would be--," she stopped. No, no booze. Not if she was pregnant. And until she was for sure of the details, Kate would put the vodka bottle down. Despite how much she loved the stuff.
"A good amount. We'll need to pick up my car as well."
Her cell phone, her wallet, every little detail of her life was in that car in her purse. Every little detail. That she would need above all else. Kate stood, if a little uneasy on her feet. The blonde was still in pain, but it hadn't been as bad as the night before. Not yet at least.
"Thank you Vale."
Some one cared about her. Some one still cared. He had said he loved her. That was enough for Kate. Just enough for now.

He smiled, and opened the door, waiting with a hand out. His coat draped over his other arm. Just in case. As soon as she'd get within reach, he'd get a hold of her, and help her out to his car. Then in the car. Then he'd get in the car, and start it up, it'd roar to life, and the gate would open.
"It won't be long until we get to your home, da?"
He said, pulling into reverse, then pulling out of the garage, closing the gate behind him. They'd barrel down a street somewhere near fifty miles per hour heading towards the residential section, while he pulled up her address on the terminal in the car. He kinda hummed to himself.
"Hmmm, hmmm hmmm. What will you name your child if you have one?"

No, it wouldn't be long. But more memories would flood in just thinking about it. Kate had been dating Hiroko when she had bought the lovely, large home. He had cooked the first meal inside as well.
One hand came up to rub the side of her skull. She didn't want to remember anything about him. At least nothing happy. And she had been so happy. So very happy.
"I-I don't know Vale. I guess it depends on if it's a girl or a boy. Any suggestions?"
A small little smile. Kate could see Vale bouncing a baby on his knee, smiling. He was a little odd, with his tattoos, piercings, and such... but deep down inside Kate believed Vale was a sweet person. And she knew that he would never harm her child. Ever. Because it would be apart of her.
And she guessed that Vale would be the closest thing to a father figure to the kid. If she was having one. If. There was still the big question to answer, a week or so down the road.

"If it's a girl, Natasha. If it's a boy... Naiminov."
He chuckled at Naiminov, it meant troublemaker. In slang. He turned the wheel gently, and they arched around the corner, pulling up to her home. From the left side of his seat, he pulled a standard police issue glock from it's hidden holster, yet remained seated. He lolled his head to the side, looking at it.
"Do you think the bastard is inside?"
If he was, Valekin was going to put a few bullets in him. Maybe carve him up and string him up as well. That would be fun, but then... Kate wanted the revenge. He'd only use the weapon to defend her while she was there. He got out of the car with the weapon, tucking it in the small of his back between his waistband and his flesh.
"Let's go. If he is, you don't have to worry about it."

Would Hiroko be here? No...more than likely not. He had his own house now... and he hadn't even looked at her when she left. Hiroko had gotten what he wanted and just left her. Didn't give a damn at all. Inhaling a deep breath of air, Kate got out of the car and placed her feat on the sidewalk. Her home.
She almost didn't want to go back in there. But she made herself breath normally, and made herself walk to the front door. But wait, she didn't have her keys! But of course the spare key...
Kate bent down to pull away part of the door frame. It came away easily to those who knew where to pull. The piece was hollowed out and stored the extra key, just in case of...situations like this. Her slender fingers pulled the little metal thing out, and place the door frame piece back. Then the blonde stood back up and unlocked the door.
"Natasha... I like Natasha... and what? What was the boy's name?"
Kate took the first few steps inside slowly.

"Troublemaker. Which would be accurate since children are usually trouble when they are little. But they grow out of it."
Valekin walked in and looked around a bit, he could tell she liked to indulge herself with her money. He on the other hand saved it in the bank for emergencies. But all that money wasn't really going to save him from an emergencies of immense proportions, correct? I mean, if a nuke hit the city, his moolah won't save him. Or anyone else for that matter. So he didn't really mind.
"Does the animal have a cage?"
