It was a bit unusual to find Mitsukai hanging around the cafeteria but today was a special occasion....
Well not really special, more on the lines that her usual hang out spots were all taken today. That really sucked, she didn't have much places to go to so here Mitsukai was sitting at a table somewhere far in the back by herself. She had finished her lunch and now was doing something she seemed to be doing quite often. Drawing.
It must be some sort of mood she was in recently. Normally during moments like these Mitsukai would turn on her mp3 and read a book but lately she had a craving to draw. Now what to draw today?
A quick glance around the room would provide nothing. There was nothing interesting to draw and she was not in the mood to draw people. Maybe she should draw an animal or something?
Ah that gives me and idea! she thought cheerfully as she took out a mechanical pencil and her notebook to get started. Her mind had drifted back off to this morning when she had been getting ready to leave. Catching a glimpse of the adorable sleeping kitten sleeping next to her in the bed. She had recently retrieved her pet Ammani from Kevala when she decided to stay with Ryu and was thrilled to have her back. Though of course no one really knew how much she liked cats at all, it seemed a bit odd for someone who seemed so serious to have a soft side didn't it?
Mitsukai kept the image of the sleeping kitten in her mind, relying on memory alone to bring that image out on paper. It was turning out quite good surprisingly, maybe she should save it in the little portfolio that she had hidden away in her room?

The cafeteria, hell, the whole friggin' instution was a dumping ground for society's rotten apples, where bad seeds got dumbed and blossomed, only to bear worse fruit. Fewer places was this more obvious than in here, during lunch hour. People hung together in tightly knit groups, their primal goal to shut out as many others as possible. Here, there was no room for the unwanted, the rejects of these pointless cliques were shut out by those cooler, smarter, prettier, or rather those that wanted to be. The unfortunate few who hadn't embraced this weak drive learned to shut themselves in, to turn their backs on everyone and everything that was for 'the popular' kids.
"Outta the way, pale freak." Someone pushed past Adrian, pushing him unto a nearby chair, shoving hard to make themselves feel stronger. Instinctively he reached for the salt shaker and had already lifted his hand to break when he reclaimed control. He couldn't do that, not here, not now, not to these putrid vessels of a worse future. Getting in a fight here was common, especially here, but that only meant that the teachers would be more attentive. And they'd be sure to note someone throwing salt and broken glass into the eyes of another student.
Straightening himself up in the chair, about to get up and leave, he caught a glimpse of the person sitting across from him and paused. This was... odd. "Oh, hey Mitsu." He smiled, masking his rage in a relaxed tone of casual courtesy. "Small school, eh?" Breathe, breathe, keep breathing. He managed to contain the beast, for now. Someone else would feel its jaws, later today. "Watcha doing?"

Once Mitsukai got into something she really liked it was as if nothing else existed. She could only hear the faintest sound of some dumb ass probably trying to start a fight around where she was. The sound of someone being pushed into a chair or something but she didn't even bother to look up to see what the commotion was about. It was common in this dump of a school for random fights to break out. It was as if all the students were caged animals screaming to be let loose.
In a sense they were, society was nothing more then a giant invisible cage that only the few ever really realized they were in. Most humans never realize that they are trapped, Preferring to live out their tedious lives till they finally went insane.
At least for her she had some tiny form of escape, so long as no one came in and actually saw what she was doing, they just might laugh at her if they saw-
"Oh, hey Mitsu."
The sound of a vaguely familiar voice brought her back into the present, making her jump in surprise in her seat. Her hands instinctively shooting up to conceal what she had been working on from the newcomers eyes as she turned to face him.
"Oh...hi Adrian." she replied back, she hadn't expected to meet him again like this. Adrian didn't seem like the type to want to spend his time in this place...
Then again neither was Mitsukai, she was kind of forced here <.<
"Small school, eh?" "Watcha doing?"
"Just keeping myself busy till the bell rings." she replied, relaxing a little bit now that she knew who was talking to her, though her hands still remained on that page. She didn't know exactly how he'd react to seeing what she was drawing so she didn't want to move just yet.

She seemed to have been startled, not that he could blame her. People were seldom polite enough to do much but try to push you about or beat you up at lunchbreak, unless of course they were talking to you as a prolologue to one of the former. People were jerks. He noticed her efforts to hide whatever she was doing, and decided to let it lie, for now at least. Killing time could be a bitch when there was nothing good to kill it with. Adrian had forgotton his current book at home, and thus he had been forced to find something else to do, culminating in him walking around in the dining area, doing nothing.
He would sigh, looking around in search of something interesting, but of course there was nothing. "So, how've you been?" That was a common enough question, right? That's the sort of thing people said to each other? It sounded about right, if nothing else.

"So, how've you been?"
At least Adrian didn't seem to be put off by her needless to say strange behavior. That was good she guessed, Mitsukai was rather odd if you thought about it simply because despite everything she still at times didn't know how to deal with others.
Though if she thought about Adrian she didn't think that that would really be a problem, perhaps because they might not be too different. She couldn't explain why she thought that yet, it was just a feeling.
"I am okay..." she replied back, "A bit bored but good, how about you?" she didn't make a move yet to put away her notebook just yet. Thankfully Adrian did not ask yet about the thing but there was still some risk of him seeing what she had been drawing.
Why did she care so much? It most likely was just her being a bit wary. It really didn't take much for someone to insult another in this world, Mitsukai was all to familiar with that. Adrian might not seem to be the type of person to mock her over this but she could never be sure so naturally she was a tad cautious.

Managing to stay in an okay place when confined to an instution like this on a daily basis took some work, and will. It wasn't easy. Then again, facing that you weren't okay was a good deal less easy. Dude... What? She asked you a question! Adrian massaged one of his temples fervently to stave off the incoming headache. It worked moderately. "Not too bad, but yeah, not much to do but homework, or getting in fights. It's all just the same, you know?" She probably didn't, she knew people and seemed to find pleasure in their company judging from what she had told him last they'd spoken. An enviable trait, he supposed. Most people were annoying to merely be near.
A few moments of awkward silence passed, in which Adrian struggled to think of what you'd say now. Something common, something low-key. "So, are you seeing anyone?" Was that too abrupt a question? He'd seen that question being asked over and over on TV, and frankly, that was the chief source of his social knowledge, filtered through trial and error. Despite his near-infallible logic, he felt something in his mind doing the mental equilant of smacking its palm against its forehead. I reckon you fucked up. And I reckon you should SHUT the fuck up. He made ready to mark down a big 'error' on his list of casual conversation making.

"Not too bad, but yeah, not much to do but homework, or getting in fights. It's all just the same, you know?"
Mitsukai did understand that and even sympathized with him on that issue. Though strangely enough in this place she had for the first time made some friends she still was not the best socialist around. Hell she still found most people annoying, especially the buffoons roaming around in this place at the moment. Mitsukai always had been and probably still will be the loner type. Hence why she had been sitting alone in this corner by herself not too long ago.
Again a brief moment of silence ensued as both parties struggled to think about what to say. Keeping a conversation going now was a bit harder to do then when they were on the roof but that had been because Mitsukai was in a far greater mood then right now so it was a bit of a challenge to try and come up with something. But then Adrian broke the silence.
"So, are you seeing anyone?"
She couldn't help but cock an eyebrow at the random question. It was something no one had ever asked her before, ever. She studied him for a moment trying to determine exactly why he would ask her something like this. Normally from what she had observed a boy would normally ask a girl such a question if he was interested in her. Could it be that he was-
Nah...There was no way that he'd be interested in me she reminded herself. After all Mitsukai was not the type of girl that most guys were interested in.....unless they were into the loli type. But from her findings so far that was rather rare....for her anyway <.<
"No I'm not. Not like anyone would be interested in me even if I was looking." she replied back, trying to make it seem as not a big deal. The chances were Adrian was a bit nervous and had blurted out the first thing that came to mind without thinking much on it. Yeah that was most likely it.

There was an unmistakeable downswing in her tone as she replied, something that stopped him from simply shrugging and murmuring 'yeah'. Was she sad about it? "Well, people are jerks." Not the best thing to say, but it seemed to fit somehow. "And jerks seldom have good taste, eh?" What the FUCK do you THINK you're DOI- SHUT UP! And there was silence in his mind, for the first time in much too long.
Adrian felt uncomfortable, he wanted to leave, but steeled himself against it. He wouldn't let his weakling fear dictate his movements. "So, what'cha got there?" He asked, indicating the thing she was hiding, trying to force the subject away from a most uncomfortable place. He felt feverish, he was reacting to weak urges and hated hismelf for it, but couldn't let it through, no one would know. He felt the beast, and it's voice, struggling to get through, biting, gnawing, ripping and tearing, they wanted to get out, they wanted him to leave. He took a deep breath, calming himself and placating the two, for the time being. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to pry." He quickly apologized, managing a smile. He had to leave, soon, or bad things might happen.

"Well, people are jerks." "And jerks seldom have good taste, eh?"
Mitsukai could not for the life of her know how to react or even what to think about that comment. She had never really thought about it that way, and certainly never thought she'd hear someone else say that to her.
"Yeah...I guess..." Was all she had managed to say before looking away a little blushing slightly. Oddly enough she didn't exactly feel upset or that embarrassed by it, though she didn't know completely why but it was still a little awkward to say the least.
"So, what'cha got there?"
And now the focus was brought back to what she had been drawing earlier. Damn there was no way to avoid it was there? Maybe this might not turn out so bad, assuming of course Adrian didn't look down at her for this.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to pry."
"No it's okay....." she said. "Do you promise not to laugh at me if I show you?" her gaze fell back at Adrian almost pleading for him not to make fun of her for what she had done as she quietly handed him the notebook.

She seemed about as uncomfortable with his remark as he himself was, and Adrian made a mental note to avoid such situations with people in the future. He had placed them in an awkward place, something that could tear a fatal hole in his facadé. But then she asked him a question.
"Do you promise not to laugh at me if I show you?"
Was this that 'opening up' thing Mother had talked about, was this the time to be, what's the word, gentle? "Alright." He nodded, trying to look sincere. Art, art was many things, but from her first reaction, problably some sort of vulnerability, she had decided to hide it from her sorroundings, a good sign in Adrian's mind. Art was a beautiful thing, but there were too many people turning towards it for attention rather than out of any actual talent, far too many. "I promise." He managed anoter smile, though this one was easier by far. Whatever she had created was already a good deal better than far too much 'art' of the modern age.

"Alright." "I promise."
She relaxed a little bit more at his response. It was a bit strange that she could actually trust Adrian's words so easily but she did. It was odd but she felt at least with this issue she could trust him a little. That was interesting considering they had not been around each other very long. Hell there were somethings that she still preferred to keep to herself, even away from Kevala and that girl was possibly the closest friend she had. Slowly Mitsukai withdrew her arms from the book to allow Adrian a better view.
She couldn't help but watch for his reaction to her work. Just to see if he would keep his word. Who knows...maybe he'd like it....

She actually trusted him, didn't she? Foolish girl, trust was one of humanity's greatest folly's, and weakest drives. Why, then, was that warm, loose feeling spreading throughout his abdomen, weakening the bars that kept his demons where they belonged? Then she let her arms fall from her sketch, and his head tilted slightly to the side. Then he smiled. "What's her name?" He would ask, a strange and unfamiliar softness dimly glowing in his eyes. Adrian had had a cat once, when he had been a child. It had been a she, a mongrel cat whom they'd called Princess. He missed her still, it had been almost a decade since they'd found her in the back-yard, eyes closed and not breathing. He had cried that day.
It was nice, seeing a cat curled up like that again, even if it was not a first-hand experience. Princess had had an adorable habit of curling up with her nose, or snout or whatever, hidden under her leg, purring so loudly you could hear it from the other end of the room. Also, when Mother or Father had been fighting she would come and meow at them to stop. They all missed her. "It's adorable." He would say. "It's almost as if she's really here." The demons were silent now, pacified for at least a little while. His eyes shifted from the kitten to the cat-like eyes of the artist. "Do you draw often?" Maybe, I'll commission a few pieces. They look nice, and they keep me calm. Yeah yeah, you're always sooo smart. I wasn't ASKING your opinion. Crawl back into your hole. "I like it."

"What's her name?"
"Ammani." she said giving a small shy smile in response. It was a bit of an odd name to give a cat but Mitsukai preferred to give animals human names rather then pet names like 'Boots' or 'Whiskers' because depending on the country of origin the names had better meaning to them. She also loved Indian names which was of course where she had gotten the name from.
"It's adorable." "It's almost as if she's really here."
She felt glad that Adrian actually liked it, it was a rare thing for Mitsukai to actually show her work to anyone so it was a relief to hear him praise her for it.
"Do you draw often?" "I like it."
"Sometimes when I am in the mood." she answered. "It's just a little hobby I do from time to time."

Ammani? That was nice. Cats were lovely creatures, Adrian had always had a feel for them. He had always thought it was funny that he had more empathy for the little feline quadrupeds than the simian bipeds who were supposedly of 'superior evoltion' or some shit. The only thing 'superior' was their unsurpassed ability to each other over. No matter how or when- Dude, wake up! Adrian blinked, his eyes regaining clarity. "Sorry, I guess I spaced out there." He smiled apologetically, rubbing his temple.
Her words, what she had said while his mind had been lost, slowly came back to him. "I guess we all need to have some way of... escaping." Those who didn't were driven insane, or worse, ended up like far too many weak people, prowling the streets for prey. Adrian himself, apart from a few extra-legal activities, wrote a little now and again, poetry mostly but he hadn't yet shown it to anyone. Not least because he was rather sure few people would appreciate his views on most things. He felt his mind drifting off again and resolved to keep it in palce this time. "So, how old is she?" A rather unimportant question, but he needed to keep his mind occupied. He stole another quick look at the drawing and smiled. "She looks lovely."

"So, how old is she?"
Mitsukai thought about it for a moment. Truth be told she did not know how old little Ammani was. It was not like she had got the little kitten from a pet shop or from a previous owner.
"I am not sure. She was a stray when I found her." she said honestly. "She probably is around four months give or take."
