He kept his grin.
"Nah, i was just wondering if you wanted me to start trying now, or if you were prepared to throw in the towel."
Their little banter seemed to have no end, and David didn't see an end to this fight coming anytime soon. He wasn't lying, when he said he might start trying, but he wasn't telling the whole truth either. If he were, he would tell her the exhaustion came from his headache, and a sick feeling in the pit of his stomach. He knew the cause of both, but wouldn't talk about it. He had hoped not to have even such mild side effects for a few more weeks, but it mattered little. When the doctor came, they would be able to sort out his options and if need be, his will. He figured that as long as he was still somewhat healthy, he would start trying his best, so at least she could remember him in his prime days with fondness.
Taking off, his movements would seem more fluid, controlled- his eyes keeping straight to the center of her body so as to watch every possible source of movement, whether the arms or legs. He wouldn't play games with her anymore, physically. His mouth would still give her little lashings, but all in good sport. His physicality, however, would seem to click into his previous mannerisms, his old style and groove, to show that they both could really test themselves. He had been weak for so long with depression, and anxiety, regarding his illness coming upon him at such a young age, and he wouldn't want her to think he was THAT different, or that the Blaze she had been fighting moments ago wasn't the Blaze she fought with as a teenager.
He'd duck low as he came close, sticking out his left leg and turning counter clockwise for a sweep. If avoided, whether by jumping, charging forward or moving side to side, he'd push off with his hands, twisting his body in a cork-screw like motion and kick out with his right leg, right for the diaphragm, his momentum accentuating the force of the blow in an attempt to lift her clean off her feet.
If his initial attack connected and she fell onto her ass, well, he'd cross that bridge when he came to it.

"Hah! As if."
She laughed, feeling much like a kid again at the witty banter. All of the fights she had gotten into during her years on the streets had been for survival. There had been nothing truly fun about it, except when her twisted mind played games with her opponents like a tiger playing with its meal before pouncing. Fighting just for fun brought her back to her days at 259 when things had been simpler. It was a good feeling.
When David came at her and swept with his left foot, Olesya leapt back into a back handspring over his sweeping leg, twosting her ody and kicking her own legs out like a horse kicking back at its downed rider. His right footed kick connected with her thigh, where her diaphragm was a moment before. The kick sent her flying, her right side hitting the ground and skidding a couple of feet. She pushed up from the ground with her hands, using the tail end of the momentum to propel her to her feet. She shifted her feet so that she was facing him in a fighting stance once more.
Throw in the towel, puh-lease.
Running at him, Olesya tucked into a tumble, kicking out her feet as they came around in the air, aiming for his sternum. It was a fun little move she'd learned on the streets when she tussled with a couple carnies in LA. They had been more nimble with their acrobatics, but Olesya still had them beat.

As his kick connected, David shot a glance at the ground. Landing flat on the earth, he kicked up onto his feet. Olesya came leaping through the air at him, David's instinct kicking in as his eyes caught her movements. Side-stepping to the right, he would twist his torso left and stick his hands into her side, pushing hard to try and throw her back into the dirt and skidding off a ways. He'd turn and run after, jumping and sticking out his knee in an attempt to land on her diaphragm, attempting to run the wind clean from her lungs.
He knew, eventually, one would either need to quit or call for a truce. If they didn't, they'd keep going until one was unconcious. David would probably be the one to aquiest to that necessity. He didn't mind- it wasn't like he expected to win anyway. He'd probably tire out first anyway, and start making mistakes, which would lead her to bust his head. He'd rather bow out, giving the appearance of a gentlemans "victory", than suffer that embarrassment.
If everything went according to his attack plan, he'd straddle her once more, this time though, he'd tickle the hell out of her, so she had trouble getting back her breath. Maybe she would pass out from that, he could get a humorous win.

They were quite evenly matched, though David was still a bit faster than Olesya. The hit connected, sending her sprawling once more. As she moved to get to her feet, David pounced, pinning her to the ground again. This time, her tickled her, the young woman writhed, laughing so much that it knocked the wind right out of her. She thrashed, trying to unbalance him, but failed miserably.
"S-stop...I give! I g-give!"
She managed to wheeze between involuntary giggling. What a dirty trick, calling upon her involuntary reflexes to gain the high ground. Granted, anything goes when it came to fights between Olesya and David and they both knew that hell, they knew that the first time they'd crossed fists back at 259.
"Ch-cheater!"
Olesya exclaimed, hitting him in the chest with the flat of her palm. Kidding of course.

He laughed, coming to his feet. He put his arms in the air, bouncing from foot to foot like a professional boxer, the ring announcer having given him the victory.
"David Blaze! Champion of the world! Taken down the Elusive one with an awesome finger death grip! The crowd goes wild-ah!" His last sentence was cut off by the palm to his chest, laughter continuing after. In all honesty, he was glad she had stopped. He was running low on juice, and he...come to think of it...he felt odd. Like he was still fighting her. Doubling over, he put his hands on his knees, sweat coming from his forehead again in a new fury. He began to feel strangely light-headed, and the ground was turning-
***************************************************
"Over-exertion can cause some side effects."
David swallowed, the pill going down smoothely and without the need for water. He sat on the edge of his bed in only his boxers, dust coming from the roof about four feet above his head. Bombs were still dropping, even after such a long period. The doctor stood in brown slacks and a white coat, used to the sounds of war by now. He wrote on a small clip board, sighing heavily as David came to his feet.
"So, what, I can't jog in the morning or something?"
The doctor shook his head.
"No, excersize is good. But pushing your body harshly can cause thinning of the blood, which can lead to temporary loss of sight or other various side effects."
David grunted, brushing the hair from his eyes and staring down at the magnefying glass, a blood sample under the light, the doctor bending over and examining it a moment.
"Is that it?"
The doctor pulled back, looking at him for second or two before nodding, and gesturing for him to take a look himself. David stared at it for a while before pulling on his shirt.
"I'm good, thanks."
******************************************************
Before he could bring up his hands to stop himself, David's face hit the ground, dirt sticking to his skin. The last thing he saw was sky, and shadows shifting, before passing out peacefully.

Olesya rolled her eyes, her laughing turning from a reflexive cry to mild amusement. What a goof, bouncing around like he'd won a big time match even though they were just fooling around. She sat up, resting her arms on her knees, catching her breath.
Her look of amusement fell to a look of concern when David's palms fell to his knees. Olesya frowned.
"Hey are you o-"
She cut off as David fell forward, crumpling to the ground. Olesya flew to her feet, catching him roughly inches from the ground. She turned him over on his back, her left leg bent and knee resting on the ground, her right leg bent with her foot firmly on the ground, resting his back against her leg, right arm around his shoulders.
"David!? DAVID! Hey! Wake up! David..?!"
She gently shook his shoulder with her free hand, panic in her voice. There were no hospitals anymore, she didn't have a phone and even if she did, she doubted 911 was even in operation. She mind instantly ran trough her options. She could try to find Jon or Stu or Delilah if he didn't come to. And what of the people she was to meet? Are they nearby? Were they expecting him?
She tried to calm he thoughts, focusing in waking him up first. She slowly increased the strength of her shakes, patting him in the cheek.
"David...!!"

He didn't wake.
In his bag was his clothes, brass knuckles, a book (journal) as well as a picture and some pills, with a water bottle.
The pills were in a non-descript bottle, with faded instruction. "Take twice daily until symptoms relieved." The name was faded. The photo was of his brother, Damien. If Olesya wanted, she would have time to take one item, or examine two things quickly.
**************************************************
Hands would come down and grip David's arm, a young male with red hair pulling him into a sitting position. August had been on the approach when the two of them were laughing, and had watched as David collapsed. He turned back, calling for Youichi, who ran forward with him. The male looked up to Olesya.
"We need to get him to bed, quick. He'll wake in a few hours, sick as a dog."
August stood with Youichi, who would come and take David's arm over her shoulder. The red head faced her.
"We need food, and a cold rag. I'm going to see what i can find. Get his clothes off and make sure he has air. I'll be back as soon as i can."
He spoke...like he had seen it happen before.
He ran off as Youichi turned to Olesya, expecting her to assist.

Olesya froze for a moment as David was pulled her her arms by another man who was soon joined by a young woman. They looked about her age, though Les had never seen either of them before. She listened to the rehired man dumbly, taking a moment for his instructions to sink in.
When he ran off, Olesya loked to the girl, realization dawning into her mismatched eyes. She bent down, grabbing Davids backpack and slung it over her shoulder. She took David's other arm, wrapping it over her shoulders and taking his waist in her other arm. The girls got David back to his home with little difficulty. It wasn't too far away, the biggest challenge was handling the dead weight. The women didn't talk much outside of 'get the door' 'slowly, watch his head' and other such teamwork-like instruction. They would have time to introduce each other soon enough.
It didn't take a rocket scientist to realize that these two were the people David wanted her to meet. They knew David, and obviously knew more than she did about whatever was going on right now. It worried her, not the fact that they knew more than her, but the fact that something bigger was going on than she was seeing.
They laid him down gently in his bed, taking off his shirt and pants to allow him to breathe and be more comfortable. Olesya hesitated at first, feeling really weird about disrobing an unconscious David. She imagined if she'd been in this situation, that he was conscious and it'd be mutual. But when it came to medical emergencies, certain insecurities and formalities went out the window.
"You must be David's friends. My name is Olesya."
She introduced herself to the other girl. Olesya wasn't sure how much David had told them about her if anything at all, and she wasn't going to assume that they knew who she was, seeing as she hadn't heard much about them except that David wanted her to meet them. Some meeting it turned out to be...

Youichi put her hand to David's head to check if he had a fever- the dark haired girl had shown no qualms about helping take off David's clothes, and had seemed more than comfortable with sticking him into the bed. She glanced up at the white haired girl as she introduced herself.
"I know who you are."
She didn't say how, or from where, just that she did. She let out a little breath, realizing how sharp her voice sounded. David wanted them to meet, she knew, and had wanted the impression and conversation to go well. She looked back at Olesya, her eyes and features softening, if only a little.
"Sorry...Just Stress." Lame excuse, but a little true. Every time David decided to kiss the earth by passing out, she got worried. And she didn't like being worried- being close enough to someone that it cause you worry...made her feel like gagging. It also made her feel swells of pride and happiness too. She curled a piece of hair behind her ear.
"David told us he saw you, and that he wanted us to see what we..um...to meet."
She looked down at David as he took a deep breath, then another, as though he had been holding it for a long time and was out of air. She laid a hand on his chest, before glancing at Olesya again. Not wanting her to take it the wrong way-
"I'm Youichi. The other guy is August. We're...David's family."
She stared at Olesya, giving a look like she meant nothing more in the world than that. It was obvious they weren't blood related, but it was the hint that mattered.
August came in the door.
"Youichi, can you come with me for a minute?" He looked at Olesya. "Would you watch him?"
They both left.

Olesyas eyes widened at the girls words. She knew who she was? Was that supposed to be a good thing? The tone indicated otherwise, but the girl seemed to have noticed her tone by sighing and saying it was stress. Olesya could understand, realising there was more happening here than she realised, and with the world ending and all, no one could help but be a little stressed.
Youichi, that was the girls name. Unique, it wasn't something that we was about to forget soon. August was the name of the red haired boy who had run off looking for supplies. If he didn't find anything, Olesya was certain she at least had some food in her house, if not other things that David might need. She looked back to the unconscious boy, frowning slightly with worry.
It was quite obvious that the three of them were related, at least by blood. Olesyas eyes clouded over slightly a the mention of family, reminded that she hadn't heard anything from her own family.
"David is lucky to have family like you. Someone to watch over him."
Thinking about that sort of this made Olesya realise just how alone she was, t was something she didn't like to think about, so she tried pushing it from her mind. Thoughts like that were dangerous, they destabilised her mood, and that was a dangerous thing to do for someone who wasn't fully cured of Barkers poisons.
When August came in looking for Youichi, Olesya nodded at his question to look after David. When they left, she set down his backpack by the head of his bed, sitting down on the edge of his mattress and folding her hands in her lap. Her hazel and electric blue eyes scanned his sleeping face, her worried expression facing his peaceful sleeping expression.
Why did he pass out? Why wasn't he waking up? What was wrong with him? Was he sick? Olesyas frown deepened, worried about the only friend who'd come back into her life. Sure Stu was around, by they had had their ups and downs, and he had Delilah and...what was the kids name, Oliver? now. It wasn't the same.
Olesya reached up, brushing a strand of hair from his face gently.

August came back into the room, youichi following but staying in the doorway, leaning against the support beams and watching the red head work. He folded the rag, applying it to David's forehead before taking his wrist in his hand and checking his pulse. Looking up absent mindedly, he nodded after a moment before looking down at Olesya.
"Oh...shit I'm sorry!" He held out his hand across David's body. "I'm August, one of David's friends." He gave a broad, charming smile, Youichi sniffing in the background. "Your just as good looking as David made you out to be." He released her hand before moving to the top of the blanket, folding it back to David's knees. He pulled down his boxers at the hip a little, taking a needle from a tray and sticking the point straight into the bone. He would empty the shringe there, a clear fluid moving out of it and into him. He set it down on the side table before applying some gauze and medical tape. He'd put the male's clothes back to correct positioning before pulling the blanket back up to his neck.
"Got quite a soft spot for you, he does. Have to hit him in the head with a rock to shut him up. On and on-"
Youichi cleared her throat, giving a "are you kidding me?" look before speaking up.
"August is exaggerating. He's mentioned you once or twice."
August nodded, but when Youichi glanced out the window, he made signs with his hands indicating David went on and on and on. Truth was, it was probably somewhere in the middle, not that there was a way she would know.

Olesya stood up from the bed, stepping back as August took over, her gaze flicking to Youichi briefly. She kept her mismatched eyes on the unconscious boy, a mild frown still in place. When August held out his hand, Olesya stepped forward, taking his hand and shaking firmly. He seemed pretty take-charge, no wonder he was friends with David.
As August kept talking, a pink tinge appeared on her cheeks. Good looking? Soft spot? This was all news to Olesya...whether or not it be factual. And without David awake to defend himself, she wasn't sure if she should believe it. It didn't help that she hadn't been close with anyone for years, she almost didn't know what to do when faced with that sort of situation.
To August and Youichi, it would appear that Olesya was gaping like a fish. She'd open her mouth to say something, then close it again. Back in highschool, Olesya had been social butterfly, she fit in just about any social situation. But now, it was like learning all over again, and it put Olesya in an awkward position. At their little back and forth, Olesya settled with a mild smile as August mimed 'on and on and on.' They had a cute dynamic, August and Youichi, and Olesya could feel herself warming up to them, even in this somewhat grim situation.
She nodded to where David was sleeping.
"What's wrong with him?"
She asked softly, a note of hesitance in her voice. She wasn't stupid, something obviously was going on with the fainting and the syringe and everything, but Olesya feared bad news, and she felt like anything they would tell her she wouldn't like to hear.

Youichi looked back toward the two of them, August turning his head the slightest bit to look at her. Did...the girl not know? Wow...August had been operating under the assumption that Olesya would already have known. That was the reason for his candid behavior regarding giving Dave the shot, carrying him back. Youichi pushed off from the door, raising her eyebrows a little and shrugging in a very small way, as though to tell August he was on his own. No sooner had she done that, though, did she regret it. August was plenty of things, but tactful wasn't one of them, and as soon as he opened his mouth and spoke a few words, she would interject.
"Well he's got-"
"A habit of fainting, recently." She glared at August. "He takes medication for a longstanding...illness, and it sometimes makes him light-headed." She gestured with her chin a little. "The needle is a minor dose of adrenaline mixed with Saline, to wake him up gently." David stirred a little, as though on cue, rolling his shoulders back as though uncomfortable. Youichi gave a small smile. "See?" She looked to August, who had snapped his mouth closed once cut off and folded his arms, staring at the younger girl. He didn't agree with lying to Olesya at all, and knew David wouldn't like it either. Looking down at David, he'd let out a deep breath before talking again to Olesya.
"Right, well...he'll be up in a minute. We'll let him chat with you about it."
He'd walk around the bed, put a hand on Olesya's shoulder as though to say "good to meet you" before taking Youichi by the arm and marching from the room, the two of them growling at each other under their breath. David, should Olesya have followed them from the room with her eyes, would be pushing himself up into a sitting position, the blanket having fallen down to about waist level. He'd have water in his hands, gulping some back before gesturing with the cup at the door.
"They grow on you, promise."

Olesya's eyes widened almost suspiciously as Youichi interrupted August. Somehow she felt that August was about to blurt out whatever name for David's sickness was right off the bat, but Youichi felt the need to sugarcoat it a little. Well, not sugarcoat it, but ease Olesya into the situation, which she actually appreciated.
She turned her torso to watch the two leave, grumbling under their breath at each other. Curiosity fell across her expression, but the two were soon forgotten when another voice interrupted her thoughts. She snapped back like a rubber band, looking down at David who was now sitting up and drinking water. Her gaze may or ma not have flicked briefly to his torso before setting on his face.
"Scare me half to death why don't you!"
Olesya sat back down on the bed, balling her fist before pausing and unclenching her hand. Punching him when he just woke up from a faint was probably not the best idea. She rested her hands in her lap, instead. She frowned at him, quite obviously having worried.
"What the hell was that all about!?"
Remember that thing about tact? Olesya had lost some of that to during her term of isolation.

David gave a grin and shrugged.
"It happens. I take these pills that sorta thin my blood sometimes, and if i get too big a workout, out go the lights. Not that bad, really." He reached up with his right head, using the tips of his first two fingers to massage his cheek a little, where he had faceplanted. Best to not do that again. He felt like poking fun of her a little for staying by his bedside, being all worried, but if the truth came out she would know she had a right to be.
David was definitely playing the masterful actor here, keeping his demeanor and his attitude to a dull minimum, as though he had a cold and the medicine just had adverse effects. There were, after all, many different kinds of pills that thinned your blood. He took his to help stop the spread, but besides the point. He would turn, pulling the covers off himself and hopping out of bed. In his underwear. Rather than pause or be embarrassed, he smiled and brought out his hands to either sides.
"See? Good as new." He struck a peter-pan pose. "I could be a Kalvin Klien model."
No, but seriously bro, put your pants on.
He bent down and grabbed his jeans pulling them on deftly before grabbing a clean t-shirt from the beat up dresser under the window Youichi had be looking out earlier. While he dressed, he'd pose a question.
"So, how do you like August and Bee?"
In truth, he had hoped they could meet on different terms, and by all accounts they should have. Nothing would ever be as exciting as him passing out and having a needle shoved in his hip. He knew it happened only because the tape was still attached to his hip. Bending down, he'd grab his sandals and slip them on, listening to whatever she said in return.
