Let's get down to business (Kiyr and Rai)

Suddenly both of their hand holds would shoot out like a platform!

His handhold shooting out was a surprise but a welcome one, he would launch himself up to the next set of handholds and if anymore projected themselves he would do the same trying to close the gap between him and Kiyr and reach the top.

Maybe this will slow her down a bit.

Rai thought to himself hoping more than anything that this would give him the advantage he was looking for.

Not a chance!

The sudden outward movement was surprising, but Kiyr used it to her advantage to swing up, haul herself up, and run back towards the cliff face, watching for any other surprises. Even if it was only a couple brief, fast steps, she launched herself higher, one step, two steps, to gain what could only be a shitload of ground in comparison to her height while trying to be aware of any sudden earth blows to her person on the way up.

Dude, Raikotsu, you're trying to race up the cliff against someone that's an avid partaker of parkour. Kiyr was made for this stuff.

And both fell for the trap. As soon as they tried to launch themselves higher on the platform they would both snap, letting both of his apprentices fall.

"Raugh!"

Kiyr kicked the piece of earth away and dove back into the ocean, resurfacing after a couple slow, deep strokes, intent on saving her energy.

So that's how it was going to be.

She started her climb again, once again using the wave to get as high as she could...

Rai would take off his cloak while falling and toss it onto Kiyr reaching out to grab at one of the magical handholds, catching a rock in his left he held onto it scraping his hand and getting his left shoulder pulled, it hurt a shit-ton but he would stop now he finally had a lead over Kiyr even if only a small one because of the fall, but he hoped that she would now have to deal with the weighted gear as he was now feeling lighter, but hurt, he would start climbing again ignoring the pain in his left shoulder which just got hit by falling debris on top of the fact of it being strained he would now climb almost rivaling Kiyr in speed now.

Kiyr couldn't grasp the rocks with the sudden covering of Rai's cloak.

"Fils de pute!" She sputtered and dove out from under it, letting the ocean take it to whatever depths it saw fit. She wasn't going to save his cloak when he ditched it.

She resurfaced and breathed deeply, prepping herself and relaxing to conserve energy as the next wave rushed in and she clung to the rocks once more, scooting up so she wouldn't be battered by the waves further. She panted, clinging and watching Rai far above her, pressing close to the rocks to avoid bits of debris as she started to push onwards and upwards again.

Always watching above, now that Rai was up there, but letting her field of vision encompass what was around her, too.

The cliff began to shake violently. Mathew now laying on his stomach and looking down at them climbing was slapping on the ground to cause it to shake. An amused grin on his face.

(OOC: Funniest mental image of Mathew lying on his stomach slapping the ground like a seal, and slightly confused...)

The earthquake caught Rai off guard and almost knocked him off but he held close to the cliff and struggled up the cliff he shifted quick glances at Kiyr but continued to climb up as fast as he could, his shoulder feeling like it was on fire.

Kyrie kept scooting upwards, using her rhythmic test-grip-test-move in an efficiently quick fashion, noting something about this as she began to close the distance.

Yes, perhaps it was that.

The blonde evened out her breathing, matching it to her movements.

And the shaking stopped. He just continued to watch them. Waiting for the next attack.

When the shaking stopped he would continue on faster but more cautious, Mathew was sure to have something up sleeve for whatever would happen next.

Kiyr was catching up but he was still in the lead for now and would continue to climb as fast as he could.

Kiyr marked a spot with her eyes, paused, and then propelled herself straight up the cliff by pushing off with both legs.

Almost a vertical game of leap frog without actually leaping over anyone. She gripped the cliff, satisfied she was closing in on Rai. Cautious now, however, she matched her pace with Rai's for the most part, but still ate into his lead, watching for the mark she'd noted and keeping tabs on him as well.

And Rai passed the threshold that Mathew was waiting for first. He didn't even pound the ground as a warning this time. He was already touching it. A pillar of stone erupted without warning to slam right in to Rai's chest.

Rai had seen Kiyr was getting closer, she was a clever one that was for sure. Suddenly a pillar was erupted into his chest, he had expected something but it was still a surprise, this knocked the air out of him and was about to fall backward but as he was the world seem to slow as the adrenaline hit him he saw Mathew staring at him and Kiyr to see which of his apprentices would pass this test. Rai would turn his head and see Kiyr who was climbing higher and faster, at this point he had no hope of trying to catch the pillar to launch himself forward but he wasn't about to let Kiyr win because of a surprise. As he fell he kicked off the pillar to gain momentum he knew Kiyr was watching him but he had also spotted her looking at something else, well he planned to make her fail at the task before she got to begin. Hurtling himself off the rock pillar towards Kiyr he spun his foot around on the way down to slam into Kiyr hoping to knock her off to fall with him, he positioned himself this way so that if she dodged his kick he would grab her and hold onto her adding his weight to hers.
