Combat Information
Fighting Style: Karate and Shifting Dragon
Years Practiced: 4 years each
Description of style: Karate is a martial art developed in the Ryukyu Islands in what is now Okinawa, Japan. It was developed from indigenous fighting methods called te (literally "hand") and Chinese kenpō. Karate is a striking art using punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques such as knife-hands. Grappling, locks, restraints, throws, and vital point strikes are taught in some styles. For many practitioners, karate is a deeply philosophical practice. Karate-do teaches ethical principles and can have spiritual significance to its adherents.
Karate can be practiced as an art (budō), as a sport, as a combat sport, or as self defense training. Traditional karate places emphasis on self development (budō). Modern Japanese style training emphasizes the psychological elements incorporated into a proper kokoro (attitude) such as perseverance, fearlessness, virtue, and leadership skills. Sport karate places emphasis on exercise and competition. Weapons (kobudō) is important training activity in some styles. Karate training is commonly divided into kihon (basics or fundamentals), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring).
The fighting style of the Shifting Dragon is a fighting style that focuses not in strength but in accuracy. There are literally thousands of techniques that could be used when in the swift motions of this style, but mainly its jabs that are using only the index and middle finger. The jabs are mainly in key points (not pressure points) that are usually located in just above the collar bone towards the center of the neck to temporarily compress the wind pipe, in the right shoulder so as to cause excruciating pain without causing serious damage, the top of the ribs, just before the large plate of bone covering your heart so as to knock the wind out of you, backs of knees and elbows to shut down movement, and finally the base of the skull in the back so as to temporarily shut down the brain allowing time for a knock out.
But the jabs aren't all that the style is about, it also deals with 'grab, palm' techniques which involve grabbing a limb and slamming the palm in a weak spot such as kidneys or joints (Hard enough to do a minor break). This is the fighting style of the Hikari family, and only the Hikari family, it has been passed down from generation to generation so as to keep it alive, and Kazuya has been taught it.
History
Kazuya, also known as Kazu, was the second child and only son to Kane Hikari. When he was born, his mother looked after him, but Kyoko looked after him more than anyone else. As he grew up, it became more and more obvious to everyone that he looked like his father in miniature. He grew up fairly well, even though Kyoko was what most would call a daddy's girl, he was very close to her, since she was only one year older than him, when his father was working and their mother was out. Both of them went to elementary school, made friends, and hung out like all normal kids do. His father had garnered a huge reputation, but with that reputation, came enemies, enemies that wanted to kill him, but couldn't. Kazuya admired his father, hoping that he could become as strong as him. When Kazuya was six, he was sent to a dojo to learn Taekwondo, in order to defend himself. His training only lasted a few months, before Kazuya's life would take a change for the worse.
Kazuya and his sister were downstairs, playing hide and seek, as Kazuya hid behind the couch, his sister looking for him, but unknown to anyone, a sniper, hidden away, had taken aim at his mother's head, as she was talking with his father. Just as Kyoko found him behind the couch, the bullet fired, complete and total impact with his mother's head, sending blood splattering onto his father. His sister immediately latched and held onto Kazuya tightly as she began to cry softly, her eyes shut tight while Kazuya, who's eyes were tightly closed, was unwilling to find out what happened. He heard screaming, that was his father's voice and he heard footsteps coming closer and closer. The last thing Kazuya saw was his father, standing over them, before Kazuya blacked out, he had been knocked out, his sister lying beside him, knocked out as well. When Kazuya awoke, he was in northern Russia in his father's right arm, his sister in his left arm, and she was awake, happy to see that Kazuya was alive.
Their father was currently still blacked out, as the cold wind blew over them. He had no idea what had happened, or where they were, all he knew was, it was cold, very cold, and that his mother was gone forever. When his father woke up, he found a letter in his pocket, which said for him to start a school. Although Kazuya at the time had no idea what that meant, as long as he still had his sister and his dad, everything would be okay. After taking about 2 years or so to get their life back on track, their father had already started preparations for the school, Kazuya was once again sent to learn Taekwondo, and he's been doing so for eight years. When he was fourteen, his father was still in the midst of completing his school, and couldn't send him or his sister to school, so a tutor was hired to teach them for the two years it would take for the school to be ready. During this period, Kazuya's attitude had finally emerged, and although he was attentive and very smart, having locked away the events of his past deep down, he was very sarcastic and cynical, which exasperated the tutor to no end. Two years passed, and his father's school was finally ready to open. Kazuya would go to high school there, along with his sister.
Public High School #650Going to 650, Kazuya, who chose to be addressed by the name Alex, met teenagers just like him, and even met Luyu Kodiak, the woman whom his father really loved, and whom Alex thought of as his mother. He met and made friends there, including Matrim Gallagher and Reira DeMorvick, whom Alex aided in escaping the school, by getting them jobs in his father's company, which he had taken over along with Kyoko, after his father had died in a battle against a force that he wanted to destroy. While grieving for his father, he became closer to Luyu. Everything went back to normal for the most part that is, until the school came under attack by a rogue group called The Paladins, leaving the school in ruins. Alex battled against the Paladins and received injuries that left him in a wheelchair after surgery had been done on his injured leg.
During the attack, Alex was separated from his sister and blacked out from the injuries he sustained. After the government came to the ruined school, and prison or separating the students was inevitable, an invitation was given to all the students who survived, including Alex. They would be sent to another school, located in the northern reaches of Alaska, near Point Hope. Now with a criminal record, and his older sister's whereabouts unknown, Alex entrusted the position of head of Hikari Industries to his father's personal bodyguard, Mr. Hawthorne, Alex trusting the man to keep Hikari Industries running smoothly, until Kyoko was found, and either one of them were old enough to take over as the head once more. Gathering what belongings he had left that wasn't destroyed, he boarded the plane, and was plane bound for Point Hope High. Arriving at the school, he's become a prisoner once again, and this time, escape is almost impossible...
Point Hope HighWhile recovering from the surgery done on his leg, Alex was reunited with Matrim, who had lost his memory. The two of them got into a fight for the School Captain position, despite Alex still wheelchair bound, with Matrim beating Alex for the title, and in the process, regaining some of his memory through Alex using his flame Qi on him. After his leg had fully healed, Alex was prepared to challenge Matrim for the title once more, only to be offered the title of Student Body President. Accepting the title, Alex no longer desired to challenge Matrim for the title anymore. Matrim asked Alex every so often for advice, the two of them were a duo, Alex was the brains, and Matrim was the brawn. Alex was also reunited with Sephora, eventually confessing his feelings for her, though he knew his feelings would never be reciprocated, for Sephora saw Alex as a brother, and he saw her as a sister, despite his feelings for her.
Everything was going great, until Alex found out something he thought would never happen. The vampire that had killed three members of the Enforcement Squad was at Point Hope High, alive and well, unlike what he and every other member of the Enforcement Squad believed, that Matrim had killed the vampire back in the AI Core. Sending a message to Marquise, Alex headed to the rooftop, and battled Marquise in a final showdown, inflicting serious burns to Marquise, but he ended up overusing his Qi, sustaining a serious wound in the process. Drained of all his body heat, Alex was left helpless and at the mercy of Marquise, who was just as exhausted. Just as Marquise was about to deliver the final blow... Matrim arrived, finishing what Alex had started. But he arrived too late to save Alex. Bleeding immensely from the wound and his body temperature dangerously low, Alex died. The next morning, after the battle, Matrim came up to the roof, and carrying Alex's body in his arms, placed him in a coffin, and buried him. The heir to the Hikari name, was dead...
Or so it was thought.
Arriving at Alaska after spending a year searching for her younger brother, Kyoko learned that Alex and the surviving students of Public High School #650 had been sent to Point Hope High. Arriving at Point Hope High a week later, after learning that her younger brother had died, Kyoko visited his grave, and for the first time in a very long time, she broke down and cried. However, she was determined to bring her younger brother back, and so, she dug up Alex's coffin, and took his body, reburying the now empty coffin, making sure that everything looked the same... and that no one had been there. Taking Alex to the Hikari Industries secret underground laboratories, during the year she had been searching, she had worked with the Hikari Industries researchers to develop a serum that originally was made to bring their father, Kane Hikari, back, but instead, she would now use it to bring Alex back.
Injecting the experimental serum into her brother, all she could do, was hope it would work. And it did, but it came with a price. Alex was brought back, though the process caused him excruciating pain as he screamed for mercy as he was brought back to life, causing his hair to turn dark blue, as a side effect of the serum. Her younger brother now back, she took him to a hospital, so he could recover. After he woke up, she decided the two of them would move to San Francisco. Packing up everything, they boarded a plane, and as soon as they made it to San Francisco, using the money they had inherited from their father, she bought a mansion located in the suburbs, and enrolled the both of them in Public High School #42, Alex deciding to go by his middle name, Ryuu, and fabricated the story he was his own cousin, to avoid getting caught up in the media attention surrounding the attack on St. Paragon's Secondary.
Public High School #42After transferring to and spending about a year in the high school, during which Ryuu's leg healed completely, transfers from Public High School #259 came to the school after an earthquake had destroyed the school. Even though they were transfers, Ryuu met and made new friends, including Emily Delos Santos, the one girl he loved and cared deeply for, and would protect forever. The two of them had started out as really close friends and allies in Militia, a gang, as well as Emily being his superior, but the two of them spent a lot of time with each other in and outside of school, training each other in Kenjutsu and Tessenjutsu respectively. Ryuu continued to train in Karate and Shifting Dragon, having trained in both for one year each. During the year, Ryuu visited Emily in the hospital after she had been attacked and electrocuted by the alter ego that resided within his good friend and ally, Gabriel Seran. A couple months later, that very same alter ego attacked Ryuu, landing him in the hospital with a stab wound just missing his heart, and leaving a permanent scar on his chest. Emily visited him, during which Ryuu promised her he wouldn't fall in love with her.
Later in the year, Emily ended up taking a hit for Ryuu and another one of Ryuu's good friend and ally, Trizen Takano, by a member of a organization that Dr. Layla Clavering had been part of formerly, which by that time, Ryuu realized his feelings for Emily, but didn't have the chance to tell her. That same month, Ryuu ended up being attacked by the same organization, ending up in the hospital. After recovering and being discharged, it was through a practical joke played on the two of them by their best friends and classmates, that Ryuu confessed his feelings to Emily, who reciprocated his feelings, and the two of them became boyfriend and girlfriend. After their final exams was finished, Ryuu heard rumors that his step mom had been seen in Long Beach, and decided to go to there and try and find her. Not wanting to be separated from Ryuu ever again, Kyoko decided to follow Ryuu to Long Beach. Ryuu packed up all his belongings, but not before spending the entire summer with Emily. In the last week of summer, Ryuu left San Francisco, plane bound for Long Beach, and enrolled in Public High School #259, deciding to go back to being called Alex.
Public High School #259Arriving at Public High School #259, Alex was reunited with Emily, who had followed him from San Francisco. He then met up with his two best friends, Matrim Gallagher and Reira DeMorvick. In order to hide the fact that he had been buried by Matrim, he explained to them why he had pretended to be his own cousin, so that neither of them would find out he had actually been brought back from the dead by an experimental serum. After being forgiven by the both of them, Alex became entangled in the fight for the title of School Captain, fighting against Gabriel Seran, who left mid-way through the fight, and Mitsuki Park, who ended up defeating him. Though he had lost the opportunity to become School Captain, he did not give up, and began to campaign to become the Student Body President, and met David Blaze, who, after questioning and hearing Alex's answers, was impressed with him, and told him to call Mitsuki, telling her he recommended Alex for the Pillar title.
After the meeting with Mitsuki, he found out David had been passed the title of School Captain from her, and David made Alex the Varsity Captain, but his title was short-held, as he willingly gave it up after Gabriel Seran took the title from David, who was the only School Captain Alex would ever follow. With little else to do, Alex trained and fought, to become stronger, during which he met and became friends with Emily's long lost twin sister, Drea. Alex was then contacted by Emily, who was in the hospital, and he, along with David and Drea, were revealed to the existence of the organization Emily had created, Regalia. It was at the crowning ceremony, that Alex discarded the names he had gone by in the past, and addressed himself by his real first name, Kazuya, and reconfirmed the blood pledge he had made to Emily back at Public High School #42.
Kazuya fought a number of battles, in order to protect the school, the school that was dear to Emily. But he knew the possibility of Emily breaking up with him existed, because she still loved "Unfettered" Winters, and the day came. The two of them broke up, and on the very same day, Kyoko disappeared from Long Beach, just as another side effect of the serum struck Kazuya, causing his eyes to turn hawk-like. Though the two of them broke up, Kazuya still loved Emily, and kept the matching ring he and Emily both have from the mock wedding. He then fought against Gabriel Seran once more, to test his abilities against his, and to see how more he could improve, and where. Although the fight ended in a draw, the result left Kazuya unconscious, badly burned and injured, and he ended up in the hospital unconscious.
At the exact same time Kazuya was in the hospital, his roommate, Mitsukai Shinoda, whom he met a few days before his fight against Gabriel, and fought against to test her ability to defend her Pillar title, disappeared. For one week, Kazuya laid unconscious, the same amount of time Mitsukai had been gone for. A couple days later, she returned, her alter-ego in control. She then went to the hospital after hearing a message left on Kazuya's answering machine, but she wasn't there to visit him, she was there to kill him. But before she could deal the killing blow, Mitsukai fought to regain control, only after hearing Kazuya call out her name, did she succeed. Sometime after that, Kazuya was discharged out of the hospital, returning to Public High School #259 once again. Later in the year, he heard a rumor that his stepmother had been spotted in San Diego. He then left Long Beach during the middle of the second school semester, long after his right arm had healed, along with the stray
kitten he found and nursed back to health, whom he named Kuro, and enrolled in the high school.
Public High School #774Arriving at Public High School #774, Kazuya was reunited with an old friend from Public High School #259, Kevala Katashi. Almost immediately though, he ended up in a couple of fights, including one against the School Captain himself, Cain Aurelius, after announcing and staking his claim on the Student Body President title. A couple weeks after his impromptu announcement, Kazuya received a message from Kevala, who had taken the School Captain title from Cain, and after a brief discussion, during which Kazuya learned she had a baby son, Kazuya was appointed the Student Body President. A few days later, she met with him for a brief but informative discussion meeting, and informed him there would be a meeting for the Pillars soon, and a couple days later, he met the Varsity Captain, Jack O'Connor, and the Head of the School Newsletter, Guy Nottingham.
A few days later, he met a student who had to obtain approval from him, the Student Body President, in order to create a club, a girl named Jayr Byrne. He met with her in the gym, though the rocky start that emerged between the two of them quickly erupted into a mountain, quickly going downhill in matter of minutes. Confronting her in the girl's bathroom, she snapped a shot of him, as he let his emotions get the better of him and pinned her against the wall, though he had no intention of actually doing anything to her. With the arrival of Kevala however, Kazuya found himself in the worst situation possible. Although he tried to make amends with Jayr the next day, the situation was no better than before. However, another roadblock would end up barring his path. Although Kyoko expected side effects to occur from the experimental serum that brought Kazuya back, neither she nor the scientists ever expected the side effects to appear this quickly. Quickly bring Kazuya back to Japan, under the official excuse that he had fallen terribly ill and went back to Japan to rest and recover, he was taken to the Hikari family's private hospital, though the doctor could do very little. In immense pain from the burns that covered his body, Kazuya Hikari, left San Diego, and his past, behind.
With facial reconstruction having been done on him, he now had a new identity. However, he soon found he was tired of running away from his past... and his problems. Injected with a counter serum, his hair turned back to dark blue once again and had facial surgery done on him one last time. Kazuya Hikari, was back once again. During that time, his sister contacted their great-grandfather, his father's grandfather, whom he learned was still alive after all those years. Overwhelmed from learning his great-grandchildren were still alive, he promised to help find Luyu Kodiak, the woman whom Kazuya considered his real mother, having returned to the position of head of Hikari Industries from Mr. Hawthorne, until either Kyoko or Kazuya were old enough to take over. He then returned to San Diego, his older sister going with him, and graduated peacefully, something he had hoped for since Public High School #42, and was accepted into a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Tokyo. However, just as his summer vacation began, his great-grandfather called him, having learned that Luyu had been spotted in where else, but Long Beach. Without a moment's hesitation, Kazuya left for Long Beach once more, to search for her.
Public High School #259Returning to Public High School #259, he was immediately called into a meeting with the mysterious individual known only as "Scene." After exchanging some words, Kazuya was offered a place in "Scene's" gang, "Movement," and the opportunity to change the system, which he accepted. His return to Public High School #259 however, was cut short. A couple months later, his great-grandfather came and took Kazuya back to Tokyo, leaving Long Beach and 259 behind. At the Hikari estate, Kazuya met up with his sister and the two of them were led into the living room, and saw a familiar figure standing at the window, the person's back facing them. At first, the two of them hung back in uncertainty, but the moment the figure turned to face them, all of their doubt was removed, as the two of them ran to and embraced the man... their father, Kane Hikari.
During the months Kazuya was gone, their great-grandfather discovered the dead body of Myou Hikari, one of Kane's personalities, whom looked identical to Kane, at the ruins site of St. Paragon's Secondary. He then took Myou back to the lab at Hikari Industries, and placed him in a rejuvenation chamber. He then injected Myou with an experimental serum, which brought him back, though it caused him excruciating pain as he screamed for mercy as he was brought back to life, causing his eyes to turn gray. While this occurred, a vial of Kane's stored DNA was prepared, and subsequently injected into Myou. His memories were then tinkered with, causing Myou to believe he was really Kane. Once he had recovered, their great-grandfather retired once more, as Kane took over as the Head of Hikari Industries once more.
With their father now back, Kyoko and Kazuya resumed their training in the Shifting Dragon style that had started back at St. Paragon's, with their father once more, while the two of them attended university and worked part-time in their father's company. Kazuya also continued to practice Kenjutsu with his father, and occasionally sparring against him. However, with their father back, so to did new ideas and experiments begin to spawn, something that Kazuya never suspected. One night, when Kazuya was fast asleep, he was taken from his room and brought to the Hikari Industries lab. Kazuya never saw it coming. Injected with a sedative, Kazuya was placed inside a chamber, and was scanned, his physical aspects the main point of interest. An experimental serum was then prepared, and injected into him, in order to amplify and increase the power he could put out and absorb. However, no one foresaw the effects.
The dragon spirit awoke and became enraged from inside Kazuya, causing him to wake and go berserk, breaking free from the chamber he was enclosed in. Although the serum was a success, the price to pay was immense. Only through the combined efforts of Kane and their great-grandfather was Kazuya subdued, at the cost of the lives of all 46 researchers. Now unconscious, Kazuya was placed in a rejuvenation chamber, having sustained injuries from the dragon's spirit rampage, all over his body. Once he had recovered and was injected with another serum, changing him back to how he looked before, he learned from his father that during the time he had been recovering, the world had been destroyed, and everything had been left in ruins. Understanding just how dire the situation had become, Kazuya would take off to Long Beach, to make sure those he knew were safe and alright, for the most part.
Inter-YearsReturning to Long Beach, Kazuya found that those he knew, specifically, Gabriel Seran, his pseudo little sister, Kevala Katashi, and his best friend, Mekiel Echigo, were relatively safe, as well as meeting a few new faces, including one girl he became friends with, Silk Velasquez-Sanada. However, his stay in Long Beach did not last long. As he had come to merely confirm the safety of those close to him, just as he had reconciled his friendship with Gabriel and became part of The Paladins, at the behest of Kevala, he would leave Long Beach one day and find himself wandering the world, training himself and meditating in solitude and becoming stronger. Years later, Kazuya would find himself near Long Beach once more. The pull of the city he had spent his time with Emily too great to resist, Kazuya would return, once again.
