{OOC: Me and Jack have been working on this for a day or two. The purpose of this is to acquire resources for DV without gaining territory.}
Jesse Barnett strode through the street, clomping along as he went while trying to focus his hearing and site for the slightest detection of an attack.
"So, is this how these things usually go, Sir?"
The man walking beside him, a bit smoother in step, snorted and chuckled.
"Yeah, we don't see much of anything going on in these parts. But," He added, turning to Jesse, "We've gotta be prepared for anything. That's part of being in the corps. You'll learn that."
Jesse nodded. The other man, which at this point he only knew as Sir, turned his eyes front again as they walked along. After a moment of silence, Jesse piped up with "Hey, so, what made you join the corps?"
The other man sighed, closing his eyes. In the process, he didn't see the uneven patch of road that he was about to step in. As hit foot came down, his ankle rolled, hard, and the man dropped.
"Shit!"
"Oh my God! Are you okay, Sir?"
"Does it look like I'm okay? God, this sucks..." The man tried to get up, balancing on one leg while he gingerly tried to put weight on his ankle. A hiss of pain later, the man shook his head. "No good. I'm gonna have to call it early. Shit, but if this patrol doesn't get done..."
"It’s fine, I can do it!" Jesse said, feeling guilty about causing the man's injury but determined to at the very least complete the job they were tasked to do. "Like you said, it's pretty quiet up here, right?"
The man thought it over. They were going to get in trouble if it didn't get done, and they still had a whole loop to do... the man sighed.
"I don't like this. But, okay. Go ahead, kid, I'll see you back at the base."
Jesse grinned big. "You can count on me, Sir!"

A mercenary recruit, while circling the area of Lower Los Angeles, suddenly disappeared and all contact to which was lost. His patrol partner reported this to command after he did not return from patrol. Jesse Barnett, 19, was declared MIA during his very first patrol.
"Dammit, Jack! You may not care about him, but dammit, I do!" Conrad Levi was losing his cool. A young, promising recruit going missing on his first patrol... Conrad needed to know who, what, where and why.
“And you want me to do what?” raising his hand up to stop Conrad from speaking Jack continued “I will not just sacrifice one of my most senior soldiers and leave not only myself vulnerable but also the lives of my men for what? To find out the fate of one recruit, dammit man! People go missing all the time, whole squads get vanquished out there and we never know what happens to them. I will not I cannot take this risk for just one man.”
The stare Jack was receiving from Conrad was a bit much to bear, Conrad had been Jack’s sworn shield since before he started this corps, countless times both men had risked their lives to protect each other, and so far they had done a good job. If Conrad wanted to go back out there and find his recruit Jack owed him that.
“Okay, here” He called in his scribe. “You are charged with the mission to find out the whereabouts of this recruit, name?”
“Jesse Barnett”
“Recruit Barnett or to ascertain his fate in the event he cannot be located etc. Under no circumstances is your platoon to engage the enemy in a frontal assault but to report back to me any and all information gathered about any hostiles in the area. I issue you my Honour Guard, command of a scouting platoon, and to as many recruits as you see fit as well as several seasoned scouts from our most elite ranks.”
The charge was sealed with his personally wax seal and handed to Conrad so he could muster up the forces he required to carry out an adequate scouting mission.

Being quick to mobilize an investigative force led by Conrad Levi, DV finds that the soldier was taken by a small gang of insurgence only known as "The Aftermen". There is no notification as to whether he is alive or dead, but he is presumed dead.

The runner’s heavy footsteps carried him across the ground through the waterlogged mug that had become many of the streets. His clothes were wet with sweat and rain by the time he reached the gates. Being help up long enough to declare himself and state his business he was allowed in.
In Jack’s chambers were soldiers all in combat kit, his Honour Guard Peter and the two squads which made up Invictus they were discussing advanced combat scenarios for their upcoming quarterly trials. Outside the door there was some commotion and when the messenger barged in, he was only greeted with drawn blades and was taken to the ground by Alexandra.
“He’s wearing Honour Guard Levi’s insignia sir.”
“Is Honour Guard Levi out in the field sir?”
“Yes, let the boy up, at ease everyone. Come now recruit what message you bring?”
The recruit stood up and told them all of what Conrad had discovered. Taking this news seriously Jack made preparations to send out reinforcements.
*
After monitoring the area closely, it was confirmed that the Aftermen are acting as mercenaries, being hired out in small units to local militia.
"Sir! We've lost contact with Honor Guard Levi!"
The news hit home, and upset him deeply. At first there was some pain at the loss of his friend and then that pain turned to rage! Before long Jack was about to rampage around his headquarters but by some sheer miracle was able to overcome his anger. He wouldn’t just fight them he was annihilate them all. Every last one of them would be tortured until they spilled everything and then burned alive.
Stepping out of his quarters and into the common room where all his elite soldiers shared. “INVICTUS PREPARE FOR BATTLE!”
*
Conrad Levi has been captured by the Aftermen. Surveillance continued around the area, and it was reported in to headquarters that the Aftermen are using an old abandoned library as their base of operations. Presumably, they keep their records of dealings in this base as well. Additional reports of resource stockpiling and missing persons also came in around this time.
