Avice can't really say she dressed down as Eric had put it but she wore a pair of yoga pants and an old tee with her usual trainers. It was as close to sporty as she could get. She had made a ponytail manageable with clean curls falling from the band as the rest was straight and tight against her head. She had stray curls coming from the hairline framing her face but she worried about them little from here on out. She'd head to the track and look to see if Eric was anywhere nearby. Upon spotting him she'd speak. "'ope ya don't mind that it is at night. I can see better out 'ere. The colors are not muddled or reflectin'... Ah..." She realized she needed to explain a bit more. "I have Monochromia, so I don't see better or worse but colors don't blend together well. Can't tell ya the difference between colors, my vision is of grey shades." "Anyway, I wanted to try and see what we both might be able to do. An' if ya can teach me how to be faster, that might do us both some good. Aye?" Mathew Amtrum

Eric was there as agreed upon. And he had dressed down, to a degree. Rather than slacks, he wore simple jeans. The coat and tie was absent, though he still opted to dress in a long sleeved button down shirt. Thankfully not a silk one, or one made of an expensive material. He was expecting this to be a combat encounter and he saw little reason to destroy his nice clothes when it was so easily avoided.
"I am adaptable. I assure you that your choice of time does not inconvenience me in the slightest."
He listened patiently as Avice chose to disclose her handicap to him. Or at least felt the need to explain her choice over this meeting time. Something that she was clearly uncomfortable with, at least enough to feel the need to explain herself. Despite himself, he couldn't help but smile ever so slightly at her explanation.
"It would seem we have something in common of sorts. I also see the world in shades of Gray."
He would start to move, pacing a small tight circle around Avice, looking down to examine the woman shrouded in the darkness of the night.
"And how do you propose I teach you to be faster? Do you wish for me to follow you with a stopwatch to time you as you run laps? Or did you have something else in mind?"

She did have something else in mind. "Likely a game of tag? I'm not sure what ya can do, but suppose ya catch me quite quickly. I'll 'ave to work hard to catch ya." She grinned. "All I e'er done is run away. It was always my top priority once I got the package. So my biggest weapon is my speed an' bein' smart. Trying to get close to ya will be way out of my comfort zone. Can ye stop me?"

"So you wish to shore up your greatest strength and make it stronger?"
He rose an eyebrow as he clarified her intentions. He wouldn't tell her no, and he wouldn't try to point her in another direction. But he wanted to be sure that was her intent. And if so, for her to hear it outside of her own head.
"If that is how you would like to do it then I am willing to assist you. Say the word and we shall begin."

"Aye, let us begin then. Start with me bein' it." She believed in not wasting another second of moonlight. She took off down the track, she could have gotten to the training field itself with its open spaces but she was not sure exactly what she was up against. It made no difference to her should that be the case. Maybe a thick obstacle like area would have done well for her being used to fighting at night and using her methods of stealth but she wanted to consider maybe he needed the room to stretch and that she thought would be better. She used her full speed and turned on her senses to try an predict his coming.

He was a little confused at first, he thought she said that she was it, but then she started to run away from him. That was an unusual phrasing for tag, as normally the one who gets tagged was it. Though admittedly he hadn't played the game since long before the war. It's possible the rules had changed over the decades. There was little to do but roll with it.
He would run after her, though each step of his would channel his Qi energy into the surface of the ground. The terra underneath shifting with his steps to bring him closer and faster with each footfall. It would be hard to tell with her back turned and in the dark, but there would be a slight shifting sound like someone kicking up sand in the distance as the ground shifted with his power.

It was hard to see. She'd not see much especially with her own eyes. She relied on her other senses especially smell and hearing. Easy to use those in a ranged effect, a method tried and true by hunters across the ages. She hadn't gotten far and she started to hear a subtle grinding and a smell freshly turned dirt. Beneath the sundried layer, a denser layer holding together with the moisture was being shifted somewhere close. She'd peek over her shoulder and notice him, she guessed right about him being incredibly fast but she never expected him to give chase to her.
She achieved a grand halt with a hand up thinking he'll run right into it for her own Tag. "Thought I'd give ya a sportin' chance by comin' at ya wide. Ya look a bit confused..." She grinned as if she thought she did something clever. She never underestimated him, she knew once she gave up her chance at being "It" she was going to have a hell of a time getting it back.

"Oh is that what you had planned? No matter, speed is more than simply out distancing you."
He would break off to the left, the ground keeping pace with him and shifting him smoothly away from her. He wouldn't try to gain a large amount of distance from her however. He suspected it would be far more fun to try and keep just out of reach of the smaller woman.

He looked like he barely moved... but he moved. She blinked a couple of times with a right confused look given to her face. The smell of fresh dirt was coming from him she assumed it has to do with his Qi. But he didn't go far... The game has begun for real. With a grin, she'd focus her self again to try and predict his next moves praying she'd be fast enough to react to them. But only after she'd make quick steps toward him trying to reach for his shirt before he moved.

When he heard her start coming for him he'd spin so that he was facing her. He'd continue to slide backward, but this would let him deal with the finer points of evasion that he was planning on. It wasn't a game to win, but an exercise to test her. Not only how fast she was, but how she responded to frustration if she would stay the course or start switching tactics. As well as how long she'd stick with it before changing. They would be hints on how to work with her and what he could expect in the future.
When she reached for him he'd lean back so that her fingers would miss his shirt, a wicked grin flashing across his face for a moment as he rapidly spun again, the Earth underfoot shifting as he tried to spin around her and end up behind her. Back peddling still so he could keep his eyes on her.

It dawned on her that here people were faster than she... She realized she'd reached her limit and was plateaued as a Runner. She became complacent in her abilities realizing it was not just the fellow that sliced her incredibly fierce that a lot of people in the academy were going to be able to outpace her. It was a humbling thought that would have to be sorted out later. Still didn't make her the least bit happy that she actually thought it, as he smiled she grunted as he sidestepped. She saw it happen but slower than she originally would have thought. It was as if his body was not exerting the muscles to move the way he does.
In his turn around and side slide, she twirled her self a full two hundred degrees and reached behind her body reaching closer to him from her center hoping to make him run right into it again. He was testing her and realizing he could never let her touch him easily he was looking to see what she can do. Quick thinking might win this yet.

It was an accurate observation to make. His body was not doing all of the work to move like this. As such he was not even close to pushing himself, he could continue like this for some time. He could not help but wonder if she had the same kind of endurance or if she would tire out quickly?
Her strategy was a good one. Trying to get him from behind, most people would have spun all the way around. Though he was still able to spot it, shifting his body again so she would just miss as he continued to casually backpedal.
"What are your gifts? If you do not mind me asking?"

She cursed a bit feeling nothing but air slip through her fingers. And then he asked her what her ability would be. So she'd hoped to take the chance. With that she'd stop moving all together and place hands on her hips. "I'm faster than normal folk, my senses become 'eightened for a minute or so at a time. I can 'ear better, smell thin's, I catch a few tells in the body to give away 'ow someone might move before they do. But I can't figure out why ya smell like soil when ya use whatever your Qi is." She waved a hand noting to him about the smell of dirt he exudes.
"Aye, now what do ya do?" She'd fully expect a straight answer from him at this point.

If she wanted to stop moving that was her business. But the game was afoot, and he'd keep shifting backward, the ground under his feet moving with his will to keep his movements hard to read. She would need to use that enhanced speed to catch up again if she wanted to catch him in this little game of tag.
"I utilize Geomagnetic energy to manipulate stone and metal of various states and sizes. In this current example I am shifting the soil and top layers of dirty with my movement to amplify my speed."
He paused a moment before continuing.
"Think of it as walking down while on an escalator moving down and how fast you move without extra energy being expended."

A heavy breath of relief escaped her lungs. She was happy to of gotten a straight answer out of him. In her mind, it was a huge step up from their first encounter. Of course, she was an outsider then. Maybe now that they are on the same side and in the same ranks it would make sense to him that the cryptic language was not that necessary.
"Oi, that clears up somethin's means I'm no better than an Olympic winnin' Normie when it comes to my feet. Suppose I'll only be able to try to predict yar next move." It was true she was just faster than most not that she had a boost of speed lying in wait anywhere. "So if we are a team, how can we make this work on a mission? Maybe I'll end up slowin' ya down..." She'd wonder what he thought about that. Wondered more specifically if she was going to depend on him or of he'd find some use for her skills. She hadn't gotten these many years as a runner to not have gained something from it.
She bolted in a full run to catch up to him as he kept going without her. She was charging forward determined to keep going. She'd come close to him to swipe at him once again. Maybe she'll not touch him but she was going to keep trying till she makes it one day... if not tonight.
