One thing that he had never seen before was anyone mustering up working battle robots for an attack.  He'd read about such things from the war, but to see it up close and personal... Well, not too close.  But close enough.  It was something to behold.  What's more, is they managed to destroy one, it was a unique chance to study it, it's strengths, weaknesses, abilities, and maybe even find a clue about where their attackers came from.

It would all start with checking out the wreckage and components of the robot.  Looking to see if there was anything to identify it at all.

Through the gears and rotaries, Preston would see some unique numbers, and a symbol.

He would sketch it down in his notebook as he continued to poke through it, looking for power sources and anything that may look like a backup of said power sources.

In the one he looked at, he'd see said power source as an ion battery. It flickered slightly through the smoke around it. Clearly, busted. There was a second busted generator attached to what was once the machines back....and though it too was broken, it seemed to be made of a different material. Fleshy, soft. It seemed to be almost scabbing over.

He'd pull out a small scalpel and prod at the fleshy bits to see what happened.

It shrank away, like poking an anemone!

He would keep poking at it to see how far it would shrink away, and how much of the generator it would reveal.

"Hmmm."

[David B.]

As he poked it again, it sizzled, then sagged, smoke coming out of it. One of the mechanics came over to look at Preston. The machines had been moved, after all, to Bay two.

"What- what did you do?"

"I am examining the biological components of the machine to determine if it still has power, or if it is still alive. And if it is still alive, if it retains any form of consciousness, or if it is involuntary functions only."

"Oh, okay."

He leaned in at the smoking part, cocking an eyebrow.

"Ah, you found the Qi biogenerator. I appreciate you breaking it. Usually people are worried, cause sometimes it'll go boom."

He looked back at Preston pointedly.

"We were able to discern that these machines are similar to the ones used in the east Coast battles during the great war. Primarily during the Widow maker campaigns."

One time enhancement title gained: "You got balls, kid." - Gains +10 to one stat for the thread. May be used once, then is gone.

So that's what it was. He'd only ever heard of those in class. His home did not utilize such technology.

"Do any territories still use them that we know of?"

[David B.]

"Well-" the man grunted as he ripped the bio battery off the broken machine, setting it down in a bucket and wincing.

"-to be honest, while they're similar in design these ones are a mix of biology and mechanics. They've infused living matter with machine. I don't know anyone who uses these today. Incredibly advanced. They'd take someone of a medical background, probably. The equipment itself is reminiscent of territory 90, though..."

He'd take a scalpel of his own and cut into it a little.

"As for this...Doctor Gerd is probably one of the only ones capable of this kind of engineering, outside Blaze Biotech."

"Doctor Gerd?"

"Ah, yeah."

He set the scalpel down and stuck his hands in the battery, digging around a bit.

"Doctor Rikkon Gerd is the defacto leader of territory 75. Basically every piece of medical equipment we use here was made by him. We're able to reconstruct spines and shit because of him. A genius, but a bit eccentric. I knew he broke away with 90 but I didn't think..."

He brought out a small object that looked like a marble. It was a deep blue, and shimmered in the light.

"Ah, here we are..."

"I don't see what they would have to gain with an attack on Cabal though."

It seemed a large risk with little reward. He'd push his glasses up as the man drew out a gem, taking a closer look at it.

"And what do we have here?"
