To the Core [Eric]

[Kyrie Blaze]

Her list of things had been unknowingly shortened by her brief stay in the infirmary. The moment she was clear to go, Kyrie figured there was someone she needed to run into, judging by the courtyard battle. He was one of the stronger players on the field, and that alone warranted her attention.

There was more, though.

So Kyrie went to seek the man out, as sooner or later she might be sought out. Her first guess was out in the training areas that Cabal held.

Eric was in the training grounds, far from anyone else training, his back against a large outcropping of rock and his eyes closed as he leaned back against it. Sitting and breathing, a comforting reminder of where he came from. And that as far as he had come, the basics were still the foundation on which everything he built rested upon. Breathing was one of those foundations, arguably the strongest and most basic of them. And one that people forgot to do all too often.

Kiyr would be able to find him with a bit of searching as he wasn't making an effort to hide. Simply to be alone.

It certainly didn't take long for her to find him.

Unfortunately for Eric, she would blithely ignore the fact he'd secluded himself and wasn't inviting company...by moving to sit off to his right side, though she faced him instead of sitting alongside him. Once comfortable, she took a semi-deep breath - until her ribs told her that was too far - and exhaled.

There was no need to break the silence for now.

He'd keep his silence for several minutes, aware of her presence by the pressure on the ground around them. Slowly he would open his eyes and face her, his expression blank. His wounds were healing well enough however, her sister had done a fine job stitching him up. Even if she was chattier than he'd have liked. But soon the time would shift, he could feel it coming. The sense of foreboding on the horizon, it was in the air. He'd set in motion events that would escalate and force him to play certain cards. He knew it was a risk when he'd started, but he felt it was worth it for what he'd gained.

"I hadn't expected you to show up at Cabal yet. What prompted your early arrival?"

Blaze he suspected.

[Kyrie Blaze]

"Earlier than I had anticipated, as well. There's been plenty of unrest, and the attack on the Academy seemed...as good a time as any to join the fray, I suppose, if pre-emptive." She was at least flexible enough with her own time-frame, and helping to defend after an attack seemed good enough reason to join ranks.

Kyrie still wasn't entirely pleased about the events that transpired after. True, they were good on the surface, but they also reeked, and she misliked the stench.

"You have been here for a bit of time."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Technically. I've left and done some of my own legwork. Looks like the trail may be leading back to Long Beach."

An old home, with old enemies.

"Though Leon seems to think it is best I stay here for now. Not just with the attack, but Prota is sniffing around. I suspect we will be fighting them within the next month."

[Kyrie Blaze]

Kyrie was silent a moment, though she nodded.

"That's a fair assessment. If you feel that departing is worth more than staying, well..." She thoughtfully tilted her head a little. "That is your call to make, when you make it."

If he required assistance, he'd say. He always was straightforward enough.

"Judging from what I've found out so far, I suspect the person I'm after next has been hiding in the same place for the last twenty years. Another month is likely to change nothing."

The Rogues had remained where they had always been. Slinking along in the shadows of the sewers. He saw no reason for that to suddenly change.

"Are you planning to stay now?"

[Kyrie Blaze]

She motioned a nod, the movement succinct.

"Likely, considering the length of time." She considered the question and breathed out. "For the time being. My time here may change based on how the situations evolve."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Meaning?"

It was a vague answer.

[Kyrie Blaze]

"The Storm Dragon has been uncuffed. It may be Asiv meddling, but considering the impending war on the horizon, it may have something to do with that more than my presence and actions. Then there is the issue at hand with Long Beach and if that develops faster than you presume it will. Thus far it's my intention to stay, but, I never could abide by the restraints that went along with the accords." She'd walked away, after all, "But there is still the matter of the war progressing to the stature it was at before...if not more."

After all, the world had been changing and healing. Now it seemed there could be more to worry about, over and above combat and qi.

[Mathew Amtrum]

"It's more than that. Rumor has it that a whole territory just went dark. A small one, but still. Word is that territory sixty-four is dead to the last man. War will come again, and the accords are already cracking."

He assumed she saw the announcement in the news the other day. It was one sign of many.

"Within the year this peace will be shattered. I hope you have preparations made."

[Kyrie Blaze]

She had seen, considering it was no secret, and talked about greatly aside from that.

Her lips pressed together in a line, obviously displeased.

"I am not where I need to be, but Cabal will at least give me the opportunity to push there more quickly. I will be ready."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Good. We won't have another chance at it."

He'd look her over.

"I'd ask if you wanted to go at it, but it appears you are not in good form."

[Kyrie Blaze]

"Not the best, you are correct." Considering it had only been a handful of hours. "Given a few days I will be right as rain... Enough to face off against you. Is that suitable?"
