"No, but usually he keeps to staying inside and plotting or investigating. It was just recently he leaves for days at a time, and a sudden change in his behavior is suspicious considering who he is."

Anubis would hesitate.
"I do have to get back to my duties... But it is good to see you safe."
He said looking at Evelyn. Staring for a moment before he went rigid again turning to Mathew.
"Both of you, of course!"

A man chasing a green tennis ball. Had taken up residence in their home. Evelyn blinked once, slowly, but at least the name was familiar. Sort of. She'd heard of it in passing from her uncles and father once in a while, and it was usually war stories or positive tones.
"It's good to be back." She gave Anubis a small smile. It was good to be back, and safe, and apparently in need of a vacation. Not that she was protesting in the slightest.

Anubis tan skin seems to pale a bit as his mouth hangs open a bit, sweat beginning to bead.
"U-u-uh, yeah. I mean, of course.. Yes, obviously, uh... I have to go."
Anubis would rigidly spin and march out like a wind-up toy soldier that didn't have any working joints trying to escape and hold it together.

Mathew would continue to stare at him, drilling holes into the back of his head with the power of his Dad stare until Anubis was out of sight. Then he would burst into laughter as he settled back down into his chair. That was fun.

Oooooh phrasing. Evelyn watched as Anubis stuttered and sped away as best as he was able, raising a hand slightly in a farewell gesture since he couldn't see it anyway; not that he'd be able to sense it under the heat of the scrutinizing dad stare going on. She grinned when he disappeared from sight, shoulders shaking as she laughed. Almost two years later, and it was still a thing.
Some things, it seemed, were still the same.
