Oni looked at Stevie-rae and chuckled. "Ah... Can I be both?" she chuckled more at her own joke.
"Okay..." she raised her hands and shrugged. The grin on her face was plastered there as she wanted to play a little more. "I see whats happening here... You're faced with strangeness and its... strange. When I got my Qi it transformed me. To lay my cards on the table..." she rolled back and phased through the table. Flipping back and standing up right she was waist deep through it and all that was under it. Walking out she became a solid once more. " not sure why the horns or tail fit in with that but you can call me a Tiefling... I prefer it over Demon, thank you. I look forward to how I might be useful to the team."

Well that was one way to put it. Ali caught the sigh coming from Stevie and assumed it was for the question she asked the young woman who seemed content just coming into the conversation. She wasn't perturbed by the other's appearance as much.
"Not so strange as you might think. We have all sorts of people with abilities back home. Those with your sort of manifestation are much rarer, but not unheard of." Sadly, no pop culture war for Oni. Ali was more perturbed by the fact that she seemed to expect Ali to know her. Even more so, this woman called herself a Teifling, admitting she was a demon but didn't like the name. She'd never met one before in her life.
"It's a commendable attitude, and I'm sure a welcome one, Miss....?" Since the Teifling had yet to introduce herself.

Stevie blinked again and sat back. She could soooo roll with the punches. Or at the very least make is LOOK like she could.
“Ok. Well, hi. Erm, nice to meet you. What she said. I’d rather not call you by what you look like. What’s your name?”
This was normal. Yes. Completely normal. Yup. Nothing odd about talking to a teifling standing INSIDE a table. Nope. Super normal. Stevie fought the urge to rub her temples.

Oni looked at Ali once more and grinned again, she pointed a finger between herself and the other red head. "We've met before but now that my "Cinderella Spell" has worn off I can properly introduce myself to you both in a way that considers your feelings." Air quotes flew up with her words before both met her chest as she would give them the answer they desired. "My name is Onides Une, people call me Oni for short."
"One other thing I might mention... I've learned a lesson while under that spell and I am t-trying to change..." Her cheeks flushed deeper red and she cupped her cheeks to try and hide it. "I am not usually this forward. I've am very shy by nature." her smile was still apparent even if not from nervousness to a point. Her confident front took a lot of energy and while she began fanning her face with one hand to try and cool its positively glowing red luster, She realized she needed a bit more practice.

Ali patently let her talk without reaction or interruption. A "Cinderella Spell?" She raised a brow, but the introduction with the air quotes cleared any confusion as her gaze focused on the other girl.
"Ah. Well then, well met again." She looked over to Stevie to make sure the girl was included in teh conversation.
"Oni and I met on the training field a week or so ago, though at the time I do not believe we were asisgned as a squad. It's good that we were able to meet one another, then."

Stevie nodded.
“Ah, I see. Well, Oni, welcome to our table. My names Stevie-Rae Wilson.”
She gestured at the table. Another beat later, she grabbed her fruit and popped more in her mouth and offered the second to Oni.
”where did you say you were from, Oni?”

"I'm from here, 259 I mean." she'd take her seat by her new squad. "Never really been outside of the territory except recently." she shrugged. "What about the both of you?"

"So this is closer to home for you" Ali observed with a nod, chest puffing out slightly as she was asked about her own territory.
"I'm from 260, to the far northwest of here. We've been working with Cabal since we were able to, raised to the heavens by the Earth Dragon." Some of the bravado faded, an affectionate smile on her face. "Thankfully, we still stand."

Stevie smiled and nodded. She WAS mistaken then.
“I’m from 11. Moved here for the school. That and I’ve no family left to tie me down.”
She shoved her feelings aside. They only ever brought her misery anyhow.

"Oh so you know Preston?" Oni had to ask.
She looked at Stevie-rae and shaped her expression to one of affection and care. "That is sad to hear about your family. I'd not know where I would be without my Dad. I'm a bit behind on my tally of scars compared to most." she was at one point a sheltered rich girl after all.

Stevie's description was one of the most depressing she'd ever heard, though it too wasn't common outside of her home. She opted not to talk about her own family situation; stressful, worrisome, but loved by family and supported and honored with her qi ability. It felt like a different world, and that wasn't counting her recent addition.
"Well, family will always be family. Perhaps you will find others that are more accepting, even if your blood-kin struggle to." She was in Cabal, after all. There were surely others with tragic families and broken bonds.
But the thought was dashed at the mention of the one and only Lord Salabim, enough to make Ali's eye twitch despite the innocence of Oni's tone.
"We've met." She nodded once, sitting a little straighter and stiffer.

Stevie gave a hollow smile.
“Mom died when I was a baby and dad was murdered by bandits a little more than 3 years ago. Been here ever since. I guess you could say I’m looking for a new family. Hopefully I’ll find one.”
She’d shake off the dark thoughts and smile warmer.
“So, What’s after lunch?”
LOOK A DISTRACTION!

And with that she'd note the shut down of mentioning Preston to Ali and make note not to speak of it again. She pressed her lips together and they practically disappeared from sight hearing Stevie-rae's short tragedy making it apparent she'd not wanted to talk of it further.
Off to a good start they were.
"Ah well is good to have an experienced pair of fighters on our team. I have much to learn but I would love to pick up and coordinate tactics that would greatly make use of our skills."

Ali's nail pressed into the orange peel, cutting into the flesh and allowing her to peel off the rest of a large chunk as there was a lull in conversation over what they would do.
"That sounds like a fair place to start." She folded the peel neatly on a small plate with two of her fingers before taking a bite into the sharp tangy fruit. She wasn't sure how much combat she would be up to given the bashing her head had gotten in the last one, but she saw no need to bring it up to them now.
"It would be better to learn how well we can work together now instead of going in blind."

Stevie offered the extra fruit cup to Oni.
“That sounds good to me. What time? I usually train next to the pond. Easy water access. Where do y’all train?”
Lots of questions, calm down Stevie.
