It was early and Evelyn had gone out to go shopping and explore the small town while Mathew stayed behind cooking.  The kitchen was full of smells, bacon mostly.  Bacon, eggs, and waffles.  And of course, a steaming cup of hot cocoa.

Spike was all bandaged up as he made his way back inside the house. He had gone outside early that morning to take a walk and find a stream to relax next to. He had gotten hungry and decided it was time to come back to the house. Keeping a low profile was second nature to him at this point. However spotting Mathew cooking and the smell of hot chocolate... He couldn't help but but let out a small huff of air resembling a laugh. The Dragons were far different in personality and the way they got things done, but some things just seemed... Inherently similar.

"Save me some cocoa?"

Spike would ask as he limped into the dining area with the news paper.

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Already on the table."

He'd say as he shifted the pan that sizzled with bacon. And sure enough, Spike would find a still steaming cup of Cocoa topped with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a peppermint stick stuck in through the whipped cream.

"Christmas already, huh?"

He'd comment raising the cup up making sure to allow the hot cocoa to pull the whipped cream into his mouth. That was a good cup of cocajoe.

"Can I ask you some things?"

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Jewish."

Even if he didn't practice. So no, it wasn't Christmas.

"You just did, but go on."

"Hanukkah then, my bad."

He was now going to be waiting for next weeks present. But with another sip.

"What I know and have been able to piece together over the last eighteen years... Basically the world fixed itself... Kind of. And now Strike is allowed to go about his own business, the Dragons are disbanded. Then out of no where in the peace, shit gets stirred starting with someone's big brass balls thinks it's a good idea to attack your family. Am I not supposed to feel like a pawn right now?"

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Wrong time of year."

He'd say pouring the bacon on to a plate with some paper to soak up the grease.

"The Dragon's are as they were before the war. Independent. And if you don't like being a pawn then become a player."

It was as simple as that.

"But, whose game is it? I've been fighting in an arena, kept on the edge of starvation. I don't know whats going on. Who are the other players?"

[Mathew Amtrum]

"That's the thing about the game. You don't always know who the other players are."

[Sage Sudeki]

Spike would take a breath to ponder it. It was different in the arena. You stepped on the sand and you saw your enemy. You saw the faces of Protan people. They were the enemy. But that took Spike years to put together, at first it was survival against the other fighters, now it was a whole new arena that you didn't even know you were on.

"I'm used to being given a target. Finding them, blending in, and killing them. The training."

Spike would grab his head around his right eye.

"It's there, but it wasn't me..."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Thinking like that is going to make sure you stay a piece on the board and not a player. And pieces get removed."

He'd say simply as he walked over to put the plate of bacon on the table.

"You wanna find the players, look beyond the big picture. Look who is shaping what the big picture actually is."

Charging the Jade Dragon.

"Tch..."

He'd lower his hand thinking it over.

"So, would that be beyond the figureheads? Asiv, Strike, Malice... Back before i was captured, it was Barker, but it was only obviously Barker to us, we were involved. The question is then... Who is the new Barker?"

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Time will tell. But from what I've seen it's a bloke calling himself the Conqueror."

He'd shrug.

"But I don't know enough to say for certain, which means it's not important."

He'd start piling food on two plates. One for each of them.

"Not important because you and Evelyn are both far too weak to do jack shit. And we are here to change that."

[Sage Sudeki]

"Someone is full of themselves."

He said referring to the guys name. However he'd accept the plate of food.

"Thanks."

At the comment of him being weak, he wanted to say something. But Mathew was right, he'd look back at Mathew now.

"Then I want to be strong, like my dad."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Why do you want to be like that bum?"

He'd ask as he sat down.

"You're better than that."
