Well, when he put it that way...Evelyn tries again, bringing herself to focus on her feet and the ground directly beneath her. It was like forming boots when she needed armor from her qi, but instead of that, feeling it. She assumed. The first part was easy enough.
It also tingled. Again, she got the sense of feeling solid, but that was the earth itself. She was used to live energy, constantly in flow with her.
She doesn't answer right away, trying to get a feel of what's deeper in.

He keeps watching her, letting the Earth's energy fill him still. He didn't expect her to get it right away, but she was a smart kid. He had faith in her.

Grateful for the silence, she continued. It was just...it was earth. It wasn't sickly and didn't feel like something horrible. It felt consistent, and every time she thought she'd get something else, her focus shifted to different factors of change. Like how Fenrir wasn't around, so the ground wasn't shaking, but that wouldn't matter either. Right?
She could feel something else after a while longer, the surprise registering on her face for a moment.
"I think...I can feel the difference between the ground and the roots in it." Something alive and buried deep.

He kept his tone even, trying to do his best to not hint on if what she is feeling is correct or not. He wanted her to be firm on what she picked, right or wrong before they moved forward or dug in deeper.

"A bit of both," she admitted reluctantly, eyes still closed. "I feel like I should be feeling something." Another pause.
"But it also feels like there is something. Bits of it here and there." Maybe not plants, but something.

Still just trying to nudge her in the right direction, to let her find her way, not like he found his. Hopefully faster. And safer. But still her own way.

Eve focuses on the closest change she can feel, pushing her senses down to find it. It felt like her senses were swimming through a fog and looking for a light. It would take a few tries; several times, she felt herself getting lost in it along the way. Whenever she thought she had a solid grasp, it slipped and left her feeling like she wasn't making progress at all, or was wrong about what she felt in the firs place.
"It's like running into a wall." She refused ot say that she couldn't. Maybe she was going about this the wrong way?
She'd try again, focusing less on reaching for the thing in question and trying to focus on it, itself.

"More like a flood," she muttered after a moment. Something else kept pulling her attention when she went down, so she'd work her way outward, instead. Closer to the surface, where she thought she'd felt it before.
"Okay, maybe not roots," she corrected after another moment, her voice returning to normal, "but there is something." She didn't ask what it was, determined to find it. It was easier when she wasn't focused on trying to push out, focusing instead on what the mysterious something was.

If nothing else, the cryptic remark suggested she was on to something. She let it go for now, continuing to try to feel out the flood she felt. It was a lot easier when she let go of trying to identify it while tracing it, but it all came back to a huge surge of energy.
Wait a second.
She traced what felt like a flood to her to the center, using her own qi to get a sense of what the energy felt like, stopping at the center that felt closer than she thought.
Her eyes snapped open as she looked at Mathew.
"It's you?"

He gave a small shrug with a coy tilt of his head.
"Partly, but not quite. Look closer."
He kept holding onto the power, letting the power come from the Earth to him.

She closed her eyes and tried again, feeling the energy come from him as she used her senses to comb out the area.
"You're using qi." She knew he was strong, but nothing else nearby could have that kind of energy flow without exploding. Unless Mitsoumi was suddenly stealth mode or something.

"You're...digging deep." She frowned and waved, eyes still closed with the gesture as she clarified and tried to getting a better feel of it.
"I'm assuming it's something I've seen you do before, but it's not all just sitting on the surface. I keep getting little flashes of energy further down." Which she proceeded to try to find one again, letting the question soak in.
