WR wasn’t a fan of the holidays. Not anymore. With all the tragedies that swept over their life in recent months, they barely had anything to be thankful for, and what was there wasn’t worth celebrating. At least, not alone.
The tiny androgynous bean could have been found outside of the apartment complex, sitting on the hood of their car as they lifelessly gazed the city around them. Everything was so... happy, despite the tragedy.
They huffed for the sake of watching their breath carry away into the cold air, then sighed.
It was that time of year again.

When she had left her house just a half hour ago, she had no intentions of ending up back at the apartments, yet again. Drake had warned her to stay away but it was like the building was constantly calling out to her. She had no idea why she came by as often as she did. Shiloh glanced up and sighed softly. She simply could not listen to reason, could she?
Shiloh was just about to turn around and leave when she caught sight of WR, just relaxing on their car. She smiled softly and wandered over, pulling her oversized jacket tighter around her chest. "Hey, you," she murmured, and slid over to stand beside the car. "This is a cool looking machine."

WR was about to head inside when they heard a familiar sweet voice calling out to them. They would turn around and fake a smile, sliding off the hood of the car back onto their feet. They dusted themself off and adjusted their bomber before further addressing her.
"Yo Santa, what brings you here?" They propped a knee against the side of the car and slid their hands into their pockets.

She chuckled and shrugged. "To be totally honest with you, I'm not entirely sure. I was just out walking around." She lifted her camera from where it hung near her chest. "I thought I could go out and get some good pictures, and I just... sort of ended up here."

WR glanced at the camera and nodded.
"Yeah, guess that'll happen when you wander aimlessly," They chuckled, knowing that feeling all too well. Though, their 'wandering around' was a bit less innocent than taking pictures.
"So, big plans for the holidays, yeah?"

Shiloh brightened, bouncing up on her toes for a moment. Her eyes were alight with glee. "Yes, actually, I do. But you'll have to wait to find them out!" She chuckled, and began to fiddle, almost idly, with her camera. "Do you have any plans, WR?"

WR scoffed a laugh. Shiloh was... much too cute. Her innocence was almost incomparable... almost...
They cleared their throat at the question.
"Don't really do holidays anymore." They said bluntly. It was a sad truth, but it was the truth. They simply didn't get any joy out of holidays with everything that had happened.

"Well... Would you like to come with me? There are a few Christmas displays I would like to get pictures of, and adventures are always more fun with friends."
She smiled at WR, tilting her head to one side. She had plans to try to make their Christmas better, but if she talked too much about it, she was sure she'd ruin the surprise.

WR stared at her, blankly, before blinking a few times in dismay.
The invitation was not the thing that surprised them, in fact, that was something they expected from Shiloh. The thing that surprised them was their eagerness to say yes. WR ALWAYS cooped themself up in their room on the holidays. Always. Even when their loved ones were still alive, they had to forcefully drag WR out of their room to get them to do anything. It was just that seasonal depression that kept them in their head while everyone else was happy. So now more than ever they expected to return to that shell, their safe place, and yet...
"Sure, why not? Gotta keep all the weirdos away from your innocent ass." They finally said, returning their propped leg to the ground.

Shiloh was far too excited about WR agreeing to pay much mind to the comment about weirdos. As far as she was concerned, nobody was a weirdo, they were simply a person with a story. She clapped her hands together in excitement.
"Thats awesome! I'm so glad that you're going to come. It'll be so much fun!" She waved for WR to join her as she began to walk in... well, a random direction. There were a few different displays all over the city, so it didn't really matter which way she went.
As she walked, she began to fiddle with the settings on her camera, not paying much attention to anything.
"Normally, I'd be out by myself right now. Adel is busy, unfortunately, and I really don't have many other friends. There's you, and DJ, and D--" she paused a moment, not entirely certain if he would want her to say his name. "And another one. But that's it, really."

WR followed as instructed, locking their car with the press of a button before retreating their hands into their bomber pockets. As they walked, they blew into the air, watching the breath disperse into the sky as if it were nothing. They would sigh.
A brow would then raise at Shiloh's comment about not having many friends, then they'd shake their head at Dj's name. That fucker was everywhere recently. First at the club, then at their performance, and now he had wormed his way into Shiloh's life. They couldn't say they were surprised, though. Some people just had that special kind of charisma.
"Really? You're as sweet as can be and only have... four friends? I guess the quantity isn't important, but still. You just seem like you'd know a lot of people." They shrugged. The most outgoing people tended to be the loneliest, it seemed...
They fell silent after that.

Shiloh smiled sadly, giving a slight shake of her head. Her focus still seemed to be on her camera as she fiddled, though whether it was a nervous habit or an actual need to fix settings wasn't totally apparent.
"I came to this city somewhat recently... I grew up as an orphan, in this little rinky dink orphanage a bit away from here, and... none of the orphans there liked me. People usually don't pay much, if any, attention to me at all." She glanced over at WR with a slight sadness in those emerald green eyes of her. "It comes in handy, I guess. But it's... I dunno."
She shrugged, not entirely sure if WR wanted to really get into it.

WR nodded along as she spoke, sadness glazing over their eyes as they thought about Sylvye again. This time it was less of a pained feeling and more of a reminder that even the sweetest people hurt, and sometimes their pain was harder to spot than others.
They would fake a light smile as she turned over to them.
"It's lonely." They would say, turning their gaze to the ground.
"My dad blamed me for Sylvye's death. After he found her, and me covered in her blood, he kicked me out of the house. I didn't know what to do, so I ran. I ran as far away as I could, trusting no one and stopping for nothing. I quickly developed many bad habits after that, some still plaguing me today. But after awhile, someone found me. Someone who saw through my cold facade, someone who believed in me. He took me under his wing and trained me to become... well, something greater than myself. While his methods were cruel and he oftentimes spoke down to me, he was the only real friend I had, and he taught me how to embrace my pain and flaws and love myself again."
They paused briefly, staring blankly at the ground.
"He died before I could finish my training. So a lot of what I do now? It's for him. So, not the same thing, but I get it."

As they walked, Shiloh finally turned her attention to WR, listening closely as they spoke. She tilted her head curiously to one side, and the sympathetic pain they shared ached in her heart. She reached a hand up from her camera and gently pressed her fingers against her chest, nodding.
"I... I'm so sorry, WR. You've honestly been through so much. It has to hurt... and I'm so proud of who you are. I know that probably doesn't mean much." She chuckled at that, and turned her gaze away. "I haven't known you for long, and I don't know you well... but you're my friend. You have overcome so much... and it makes me proud to know that you've stayed so strong, no matter what the reason for that is."

WR waved a hand dismissively as Shiloh praised them. They were clearly uncomfortable receiving compliments, though they were unsure if she would actually understand that.
"It's not big deal, really. It's part of life. It sucks, but it happens, ya know? Best you can do is work with what you've got, and if you're me, demand more. Sometimes it gets you places." They would scoff at their half-joke, then shake their head.
"But, real talk. You're always pressing other people's problems, I wanna hear about yours. If you're comfortable talking about 'em that is, 'cause I know they're there." They faced her again with nosy, yet somewhat concerned eyes. The outgoing were always reserved about their own problems. They didn't expect Shiloh to be any different.
