That Lovely Smell (Dj)

[Xowie Evil]

Xowie took a deep breath as she shut the apartment door behind her. Her fingers lingered on the handle while she breathed in the outdoors. She smiled faintly at the scent of freshly cut grass, which remained plastered on her face as she waddled down the stairs. 

She was dressed in a lovely black and red plaid skirt, black thigh highs, dress shoes, and a black hoodie that covered the majority of her upper body. The hood dangled over her head, even more so as she stared at the ground, leaving only her mouth visible to the world. Her hands were buried deep in the pockets. She was basically just your typical emo girl, but she thought she looked cute. 

Not that looking cute was her goal.

She sighed deeply as her feet finally touched solid concrete, and swiveled her head around in contemplation. Where she was to go?

Dj would step out not long after, dressed beautifully in his florals. He noticed a girl standing our, seeming like she didn't know where to go. Dj's calling in life was to help random people who didn't know where they were going!!!

He would approach and say "Hey, are you looking for something?" with his normal warm genuine presence and soothing timbre.

[Xowie Evil]

Xowie jumped slightly at the voice, and turned to face its conjurer with a warm smile. Her haunting red gaze shone like spotlights through the shadows of her hood.

"I'm just looking for something to do on this lovely day!" She chirped, tilting her head slightly as she inspected the gorgeous individual in front of her.

A memory hit Dj. Something about this girl reminded him of someone he once knew.

Regardless he would give a warm smile and say "Perhaps you could come with me to the market, there's always fun to be had there!"

[Xowie Evil]

Xowie paused, resting a finger on her chin. She wasn't sure if she wanted to trust this stranger, but... company was always appreciated, and he seemed genuine enough.

"Okay, lead the way?" She tilted her head again, smiling warmly.

[Djoser Aneksi]

He would nod and start walking, carrying a small bag with him to hold his books. Her face was haunting too, but perhaps it was how pretty she was. She reminded him a a pretty doll.

"So, what's your name?" He'd say sweetly, trying to start conversation.

[Xowie Evil]

Xowie followed, matching his pace after she was next to him. At his question, she turned her head at him, and smiled warmly.

"Xowie. X-O-W-I-E." She chirped, emphasizing each letter with a click of her tongue.

"What's yours?"

Xowie... the name rung through his head and sent chills down his spine. He DID know her! She was the young makeup prodigy that started his love of makeup.

"Xowie!!! I remember you! You are a big inspiration for me!" He would say with a bright smile and a flamboyant skip in his step.

"My name is Djoser. Call me Dj." He'd say sweetly as he twirled and skipped gracefully.

Xowie bobbed her head from side to side, reveling in the stranger's joyful energy. She smiled wildly, mimicking his skip (albeit much less graceful), and even doing a little twirl once she landed.

And then it hit her. She had no idea who this person was... or... did she? She was an inspiration? For what?

She frowned, tilting her head at him with wide eyes.

"I don't remember you... well, I don't remember a lot of things. How do I inspire you?" She asked in genuine curiosity, her eyes hungry for an answer.

Dj's demeanor would dim a little. She didn't remember him. It had been a long time, and he was probably one of many people she had befriended in her travels.

"Your work as a makeup artist. You came to the theatre I was raised in, you were hired to do the makeup of the other dancers. Though you went out of your way to include me. I have very fond memories of the times that you came to the theatre, and we always hung out when you did."

He would seem a bit sore now, it was one of his few fond memories as a kid, it was sad to hear it didn't mean much.

Xowie extended a hand for his shoulder, but retracted it a bit as thoughts swarmed her head. She was a cosmetologist, that much was true, so there must have been some sort of validity to his story, but... she genuinely could not remember, and if Dj looked, that was VERY apparent on her face.

"I... don't remember... I'm sorry." She frowned, solemnly returning her hands to her pockets. As his mood plummeted, so did hers.

"I don't remember anything past a few weeks ago..." She muttered, somewhat to herself.

Dj would turn to her and look bewildered, concerned, and confused.

"Xowie, what happened? Is everything okay?" He would say with a sweet voice and genuine concern. He was confused, but wanted to help.

[Xowie Evil]

She shook her head at the questions. It seemed like recently, they were questions she'd been answering every day. At the very least, it gave her the chance to reflect on them. Maybe, one day, she would be able to recall something new...

But for now, it was the same old nothing that had been plaguing her since she woke up that day...

"Well, there was darkness, then there was a hospital... there were a bunch of people standing around me talking, but I can't remember what they were saying..." She tilted her head again, staring at the concrete briefly. "Oh, Adelaide told me the voices in my head is called schizophrenia, but I thought it was something everyone had..." She added. That seemed important.

[Djoser Aneksi]

Dj would back up and get a bit flustered when she shook her head. "Sorry. I'm being invasive."

Then she would continue. A lot of emotions ran through his head. Though the two that ran the deepest were concern and anger.

He didn't know why he was so angry. He couldn't confirm that something awful had happened to his former friend, but to disappear for 8 years and only remember a few weeks ago seemed suspicious.

Anger was always a quiet emotion for Dj though, so what was important right now was making sure Xowie was okay.

"Well, now I get the pleasure of meeting you all over again." He would say with the warmest smile and sweetest voice he could muster.

"If you want to know more about your past, feel free to ask me whatever you'd like. In the meantime, let me treat you to lunch!"

Finally, when she commented on Adelaide and the voices, he would remain calm but internally wince. "It will be fine. If they start getting too loud let me know."

Xowie nodded, continuing her walk with the most genuine of smiles plastered across her face. Every so often, she balanced herself on one foot and spun around like a novice ballet dancer, harmonizing whatever sweet, random sound that slipped through her lips. Clearly, there was a world of secrets buried behind those precious red gems of hers, but none could deny the sheer bliss on her face.

"Lunch sounds nice," She chirped, nodding at him. Then she pondered his offer, and a finger rested on her chin. Did he know more about her life than she did? She tilted her head at the thought, but didn't say anything.
