Gidget's shoulders were tense as she opened the door, leading WR into the room. Her shaking only managed to get worse as she crossed the threshold, and she was careful to keep her eyes averted.
"Hey, Mom," she called out to the woman, and glanced around for a moment. She was clinging to WR's hand as if it were the only thing keeping her sane in this hellhole. "Hello, Daddy." She didn't bother trying to smile at either of them as she made her way towards the overstuffed, pristine furniture in the living room. It all made her feel sick. "Are we late?"

WR just smiled idly, not really sure what the expect from either of these people. If they were anything like the boring ass interior of their house, they were certainly in for a treat. And not a good one.
They clasped Gidget's hand and let her lead the way, observing the room with a thoughtful eye and judging it all with the other. They suddenly felt sick to their stomach.
What the hell era were these people living in?

"No no! Not at all!"
Her mother would say with a smile. He father however would flip the page of his newspaper.
"However what you did do is come trapesing in here dressed like a harlot with some sort of... Girly boy at your side trying to play dress up. Who paid who?"
He said with a huff.

Gidget flinched at that, as if he had physically struck her.
"Mother bought me this dress..." she said quietly, her shoulders raising up nearly to her ears and her gaze remaining averted, focused on her shoes more than anything else. "And... This is WR, Daddy. This is... the partner I told youse guys about..."

WR cut their eyes at the man. What the FUCK did he just call them? They opened their mouth to say something but bit their tongue. Hard.
Remember, WR, he's old, which makes him inherently an ignorant dipfuck. He doesn't know any better.
They found themself staring at him, and suddenly realizing the awkwardness of the situation, they raised their free hand to rub the back of their head.
"Yeah. Hi. Call me Will."

The mother would take over now.
"Oh, William, what a lovely name. Isn't that right, dear."
She would say looking over the father who would huff and mutter. Then she would look to Gidget.
"I think you look lovely dear, and I'm glad you at least tried to look presentable. I know how difficult that can be given your habits of sitting in front of a screen all day. It's sure to be harmful for your eyes and sight."
She would walk over and brush Gidget's hair.
"Oh, Darla, I do miss how beautiful your hair was when you were younger. It's a shame you aren't able to maintain it the way I used to."

Gidget flinched slightly as her mother brushed her fingers through her hair. She looked up at the woman, but only briefly. She hated her name. She hated hearing her name. She fell silent for a moment, rubbing her thumb against WR's hand. It was, surprisingly, not as bad as she thought it would be.
"They said Will, Mother... Not William... and... It looks better short, with that... weird black streak..." she murmured defensively, staring down at her shoes. She glanced up at WR and then moved to sit down on the couch at last.
"How are... my siblings? How's the police force treating Margie and Ken?"

WR cringed, and they made no effort to hide it. Did they fucking say William? No. And did this woman really go out of her way to blatantly insult Gidget's lifestyle? They turned away from the woman as she brushed Gidget's hair, staring off into nothingness as they contemplated how to deal with these ignorant people.
They topped her thumb with theirs, smiling slightly, as they moved to sit down on the couch.
They were content with letting them talk out whatever, acting simply as Gidget's emotional support. The less they had to say to these degenerates, the better.

The mother would move as the two made their way to sit she would just hum as if nothing had just transpired. Her father would speak up now setting down the news paper.
"You siblings are both excelling in life. Something, you, nor your... thing... would understand I'm sure."
He would say gruffly as he turned to stare at WR.
"So, Boy, what exactly do you do? Must be something as equally degenerate as that useless brat beside you. All the years we put into her wasting away in front of some screen."

Gidget lowered her head just a bit. She was used to her father's disapproval, but over the years, he had only managed to get harsher, no longer sugar coating his words. She bit her lip, forcing herself not to cry. She wouldn't, not in front of these people. She wouldn't let them know, even for a moment, that their words had hurt her. She refused.
She lightly brushed her free hand across the skirt of her dress, smoothing it out just to give herself something to do. She sat, perched, on the edge of her seat, and WR would feel the way her entire frame - even her hand, grasping theirs - began to wilt under their scrutiny.

WR narrowed their eyes at him, fully prepared to lunge at him like a chained dog, before looking over to Gidget, who was obviously (but probably not to her parents) dissolving under the pressure. Thing? Useless? Degenerate? WR grit their teeth, staring daggers back at her family, settling on her father's gaze. Did they really think this was acceptable? Is this what it meant to be 'perfect'? WR was disgusted that Gidget EVER felt like she had to be like them, though they couldn't blame her for feeling that way.
They shook their head slightly and grinned, their eyes pinned on his through the motion.
"What I'm doing is embracing and supporting your daughter, something you obviously wouldn't know anything about." They said in a completely monotonous tone, the daggers in their eyes only getting sharper.

The father would scoff.
"Sounds to me that means you have no self worth. That sounds about right that she would find someone even more useless than her and manipulate them into supporting her foolishness."
The mother would step in.
"Now now dear, no need to be so mean. I'm sure the young man has every intention of treating our daughter well, though I am curious as to why you didn't actually state what you were doing to keep yourself financially stable. It isn't because you are ashamed of your work is it?"

Gidget glanced up at WR as they defended her, the first time she had actually looked up to see what expression they wore. She scooted just a bit closer to them, hoping her parents wouldn't notice the comfort she took in their closeness. She wasn't sure if she would be able to handle it, here, without them.
Turning away from the conversation, feeling herself shut down under their cruelty, she began to look through the photos they had across the fireplace and on the wall. All family portraits of them and her siblings, doing things and going to exotic places. There were no pictures of her, which she expected. However... her eyes narrowed slightly as she continued to look through them, silently.

WR emitted a low growl at her father, but quickly silenced themself as her mother chimed in. Probably the only saving grace of this conversation. They resumed a polite smile and shook their head as they looked over to her.
"I'm an artist. I draw, paint, design, make and produce music, all that stuff. Those are just hobbies, but the income is consistent."
They shrugged, hoping that answer would suffice to at least her mother. They didn't feel like talking about their other line of work. That would definitely see some scrutiny.
WR looked to Gidget and smiled, bumping into her slightly to get her attention. When she turned, they would mouth the words 'it's okay.'

Before the father could even start on the next tirade of insults the mother would speak first.
"Oh that sounds lovely, and what is it that you do for real work dear?"
