Once she touched it she would feel an odd shock, not unpleasant, but it surely meant something. A connection of some kind, but then someone in hunting gear came running up and over to the old man.
"The mist it's... Rolling in, thicker than ever... It's! The monsters are approaching in mass!"

She'd pull her hand back from the surprise, then look at her palm. Before she could think too much on it, she'd get distracted by the new dude.
"What are the monsters?" she asks, not sounding that worried.

The old man looks around.
"Everyone take shelter. We will stay inside to weather this trouble."
The old man looks to Marin.
"The Banesahd were once people. Their exposure to the mist has transformed them. White hair, red eyes, drool, and powers... They simply seek out those who aren't like them and drag them into the mist or kill them. Berserk and uncontrollable."

The old man would shake his head.
"We have skilled warriors and hunters who go on expeditions outside of the walls, but we have not had contact with any other people outside this village for hundreds of years... We would not survive in outright conflict."

At her question a loud drum like noise would resound through the air and the ground. Shaking everyone and everything like a sudden pulse.

The people screamed as they ran for their lives while the old man moved with a knowing look.
"The end."
Another huge boom would thump through the are, but was followed by the sound of solid stone cracking and shifting. The wall was breaking.

"You should probably hide faster." Marin would say, pausing as she looks at the wall.
She kind of wanted to figure out if she could help stop them at all. If she couldn't she'd just have Mitsoumi pluck her outta there or something.

The old man would smile and nod as if resigned to his fate as he marched ever on towards his house to hide.
Marin would not spot any way to help from here, but the glow of the tree would pulse noticeably. Another loud bang and the glow would dim, before returning to it's usual glow. As if the monsters on the outside hitting the wall was effecting the tree.

She'd run over to the tree at first, mostly to get a closer look, then head towards the walls.
She might need a hole or some way up...

The closer she got to the tree the warmer she would feel, she could also faintly hear a heart beat?
The wall has a ladder built into it apparently for patrolling the top.

How odd.
As much as she wants to continue with her tree bonding, she's more concerned with it not having a good time with those goober albinos at the wall. So she climbs the ladder to take a peek!
