Pretty simple. From now on members will be able to choose their starting grade and will be able to choose when, exactly they advance. If any of the current members wish to change their grades, they may if a good reason is provided. I'm messing with the code for it now, but the main question is...Do you want it?

Well like I said, you can change if you want, you don't have to. It's just so the members have more control of their plot progress. The Freshmen/Sophomore etc rankings that are present now would be replaced with something like newbie/respected member/legend etc.

Is that a "No, I don't want it"?

Of course. He planned on it from the beginning, but never got around to coding it. As long as the members want it, I'll put it in.

Put it in and try it out, if for some reason the members don't like it we can always go back to the way things were. I make it sound simple don't I?

Does the stat system work any different now that we can choose our grades from the get-go?

Well depending on that. If one is automatically a sophomore, they get the stats of a sophomore. If one is automatically a senior, they get those stats. Not necessarily the cash, or the items. But to deny them their stats would be crappy. That'd be like giving a newb uber stats so that he can run around and kill everyone. ;x
As for the member ranking, Newb, respected member, Legend. That's ooc stuff. Not character based. So that's the fault with that there.
That's all I have to say about it at the moment.

It isn't offical yet, keep that in mind. And yes, stat caps will work semi differently. They will be attached to post count instead of grade, so the longer you've been around the higher your caps will be. You can be an uber Freshy, etc. The usual stat award when you grade up will stay.
Though it's important to note this is just my suggested framework. As with everything here, if you guys have a system in mind you think would work, say it.
EDIT: Chris, I'm aware that it's OOC stuff. But that's the point. It won't serve any purpose other than to show how long you've been around, and dictate your stat caps.
AND if you're a newbie, you start off with the same starter stats as everyone else, no matter if you're a Sophomore, Senior, etc.

OH, and another thing. New characters. New players and new characters would start out with super cool stuff. ;x I'm not talking transfers I'm talking brand spanking new characters and the like. Though the member ranking would follow the character's progression, it wouldn't follow their timeline. Just gear it so that there aren't any loopholes in the justice of characters, stats, and whatnot.

How would new characters start off with super cool stuff?

You could argue that Valekin is a new character, and that he started off with super cool stuff. ;x
