"The one I'm thinking of is a bit of a drive; he said a cracked 'tomb'. I don't know about you, but there's one I know of that actually has them.
"You ever been to the 'All Souls Catholic Cemetary'?"
It was where her father was buried, actually.
She would follow him out of the little shop, studying his face out of the corner of her eye. His apparent displeasure brought a soft chuckle from her lips; interesting that she should have such an affect on him.
Making her way to her side of the truck, she would pass him a curious look with a lift of her brow as he clicked his tongue. "How much do you know about Qi?'

”Nah, but you can give directions.” Cain replied. As he unlocked the truck and opened the door, he gave a light shrug at her next question.
”Not much. Some people got super powers and shit, and some people don’t need ‘em.” was the answer. He leaned over and reached across to pull up the lock on her door before he started the car, and once she got in, he’d pull out into the street. He glanced at her with a ’where to?’ look.

She slipped in beside him with a small yawn, a reminder that she had yet to get a good nights sleep in...three days now. Closing the door behind her, she smiled across from him with mild deviousness at his almost pouting attitude, which he seemed determined not to show.
"From Cherry Ave it's straight North, if I'm not mistaken," she told him. Easy enough.
Delilah would turn her eyes from him then, leaning back against the seat and closing her eyes, letting herself drift a little. After a moment, she spoke. "And what do you know about Barker's experiments?"

”They breathe fire sometimes.” was the humorless response, as the truck rolled up to the corner of the next street and turned right. He’d keep driving straight thataways until they reached Cherry Avenue, but it would be a few minutes.

"Ha," the left corner of her lip twitched. "True enough...but there are some who have threads made of Qi and pour black pus down your throat." She turned her head slightly to give Cain a meaningful glare, before shifting her gaze forward again to the road.
"Barker kidnaps people and gives them Qi that isn't their own. Or alters a Qi they already have. OR steals one from someone else. The people who did what they did to you were probably failed experiments of Barkers, those who managed to get away. The man that did that to you was the strongest I've seen. I'm not even sure I could have taken him."
Actually, she knew she couldn't take him. His speed was beyond following. He simply...appeared, which was both unsettling and humbling: If he had wanted to kill them, he would have.
She let her eyes shift to their corners, looking over at Cain.
"Who taught you about Qi?"

”Way back in high school. They teach it kinda like sex ed. My school wasn’t real big on it though, like some of the other ones ‘round here. Didn’t have many ‘special’ kids so they didn’t bother preachin’ to us.” Cain smirked. ”From what I’ve heard though, the other schools were run like fuckin’ prison because of it. That’s one upside to being normal, I guess, ‘cept if you end up in prison anyway.”

She flicked her eyes back to the front. "Interesting." Even in her school, no one had taught her about Qi. She had stumbled upon hers and had to learn how to use and control it on her own. Though his statement about 'prison' was pretty spot on.
"That's how two-five-nine was," she chuckled. "The teachers beating up the students, students kicking eachother's ass and the teachers, if they were good enough. Getting kidnapped by Barker, pedophile teachers with necrophiliac tendencies....those were the days."
And she was damned if she wouldn't go kicking and screaming if someone tried to drag her back.

Cain laughed out loud, suddenly.
"So you're one of those ones, huh?" the man chuckled. "We used to call it Mutant High, back in my day."
Ten or more years ago, back when the X-Men were still cool. Or uncool, rather, given the connotation of the nickname.
"Back then a Long Beach kid like you and a Huntington kid like me wouldn't have gotten along as nicely as we do~" he added with a wink. It was a little ironic, because 'getting along' only described this relationship on the most skewed, fucked-up level possible.

She laughed at the nickname. Mutant High. Hooo. Spot on.
"Awww, jealous~?" she teased. "Yep, that's me. Mutant and proud. And I got news for you, sugar, you're probably one of us now." she winked. Now that she thought about it, though...
"That does explain why our school never did any team sports, now that you mention it," she commented thoughtfully as an aside.

”Oh yeah?” Cain replied, skeptical. ”What’s my bullshit power, then?”
Once the truck had veered left onto Cherry Avenue Cain sped up to coast down the empty streets. After a few blocks he seemed to speed up just a little bit, casting a glance to the left and right with subtle watchfulness. Now would be a great time for a certain somebody to show up in the middle of the street on her demon bike again, if he knew her well enough. But there was no one around. The car ducked into the shadow of the freeway overpass and they were in the clear.

Delilah just shrugged half halfheartedly in her seat, smiling almost knowingly. "Damned if I know. Qi is a product of the person it inhabits, like mine, which is metal based. But if I had to guess, I would say something to do with fire."
A beat.
"At least in part. Your cousin seems to have a better idea than I do."
The 'uncanny knack for survival' thing she had mentioned over the radio all those weeks ago had never left her mind. Though what the implication truly meant, she couldn't guess. That was up to the Experiments they were going to see, evidently.

Cain narrowed his eyes a little bit. Why it bothered him so much that he had to say it out loud, he didn’t know.
”She’s not my cousin.” he sourly admitted, keeping his eyes on the road. ”Besides, she’s fucking remarkably insane. Don’t know what the shit she’d know about anything anyway.”He glanced occasionally out the windows to keep an eye out for the cemetery Delilah had mentioned. [/blockquote]

Both eyebrows shot up in surprise, though she kept her gaze forward. So, he finally admitted to it. Wasn't that interesting~? She had been content going along with his little lie so long as he was. And now he wasn't.
"S'that so~." she replied, indicating she knew better, which she was sure he was fully aware of. "And is the overpass a particularly sensitive place for you?"Indicating, yes, she had seen that little nervous to-and-fro of his eyes that suddenly diminished after they drove past the bridge, which was a good vantage point in her mind. Inviting more conversation, if he was willing to give any, smiling as she continued to inspect the road.

She chuckled darkly and shook her head. Damn, he was quick. She almost believed him. If she didn't know better, she might have. But Delilah was starting to learn not to outright trust a word that came out of the handsome man's pierced lips.
"So, is Gunner your brother? And the woman...does she have a brother? She looked...familiar."
Hints, alluding to what she knew. Seeing what he did and if he was willing to give it up. It was impressive unto itself that he had relented that modicum of information that the white haired woman was not his family.
And why she had known Delilah's name. And gang affiliation.
