What's in a Name? [Mathew]

Kyrie didn't understand.

And because she didn't understand - any of it, there were too many varied opinions that she knew of, all having elements of truth - she took a trip to Mount Olympus. She'd spent time with David, calming him - or trying - and talking with him as she let the storm blow over. She understood his anger, understood it very well and empathized with it, because her understanding of a Name was that it was solely for that person alone.

It could not be given.

It could not be taken.

It was only earned and granted as a reflection of Self. A Person was not their Title. The Name is the Person.

The blonde knew, too, that she would likely need to speak with Leon and Lucien to understand where they were coming from and what they would do. But right now, she needed Mathew's guidance more than anything. Because he was stability and safety in his own right, and right now, she needed that steadfast quality.

She paused at the door to Mathew and Bastille's house, then pressed her forehead against it for a moment. Then, she knocked, and stood tall.

"Come on in Kiyr."

Mathew was arm deep in baby shit as he was changing Aryanna's diaper.

"Who's a poopy little girl. You are."

When the clean diaper was on he leaned in and gave his baby girl a big raspberry on her stomach.

"Pffbffbfbfbffbfbf."

Kiyr slipped into the house, shutting the door behind herself and coming to an absolute full stop as she watched Mathew being a father. Caught between the conflict of what was going on outside to what was occurring in front of her, the blonde felt the lurching bubble of laughter amidst her confusion. Her legs shook for a second, but not from fear.

She pushed forward, eyes soft despite it all.

She moved, and actually sat, and laced her fingers together, hands almost wringing. She watched the spectacle in silence, comforted despite being conflicted.

Mathew completely ignored her as he washed his hands in the basin he had set to the side with warm water. He would have to dump it shortly, but first he needed to pick up and toss his little girl in the air.

"Weeeeeeeeeeee. Weeeeeeeeee!" He said catching her each time as the baby giggled with excitement and joy. Kiyr would speak when ready, as always.

Blue eyes continued to watch the father-daughter interactions. She felt exhausted, and so was just happy to temporarily take the weight from her shoulders to smile and watch the two of them. Because she needed, perhaps, along with Mathew's stability, was the knowledge of what she strove for was right here, even if it wasn't her own at this point in time.

She wasn't ready, not just yet, so watched with soft eyes that occasionally stung.

Yes, her hope was right in front of her.

It would be a few minutes later that she would finally speak after taking a deep breath and bracing herself. It had been no more than a day or two after the fact, so she wasn't sure if Mathew would have heard it.

"Leon named Lucien the new Lightning Dragon the other day, renouncing the title from himself but keeping his Elder position. To which a Name and Eldership are different, I know. But...I do not know what to make of it."

Mathew spent the time that Kiyr stood and watched to dispose of the dirty water and to put Aryanna back in her crib next to Eve's crib. When Kiyr finally did speak Mathew snorted out a laugh.

"Did he now?"

The blonde didn't know what to make of the snorted laugh. So she blinked in her owlish way.

"He did. To my understanding a name is not something that can be given away. Or issued challenge to be taken by force. Which is why I am confused, utterly."

And why David was furious. And why Olesya was furious. And how many others she wasn't sure.

"It can and it can't."

He shrugged and plopped down on a chair.

"Relax."

He shook his head and chuckled again.

"So, tell me about the new Lightning Dragon."

[Kyrie Blaze]

It can and it can't?

At his word to relax she took a huge breath in and out, and slumped back against the couch that was mis-matched to the rest of the furniture. She didn't quite understand that, either. That Mathew was her new father-figure she understood perfectly. Just as she understood that he exuded this calm. But he felt like home and that was a comfort. That was what she didn't always get.

But, she relaxed.

"Lucien...I consider Lucien a friend, and even though I am confused as to what has been done, that has not changed. He is intelligent and calm and a genuinely good person. Diligent. And I do not know if this was something planned or if it was spur-of-the-moment."

"Is he the Lightning Dragon?"

[Kyrie Blaze]

Kyrie stared at Mathew a moment.

"No. He is not. Leon is."

Thee was a finality to her words. Leon would always be the Lightning Dragon.

"Then what's the problem?"

He really didn't seem disturbed about this, at all.

Kiyr's lips pressed into a line.

"I do not understand how, then, he can 'pass on' the Name to someone that is not. And why, more than that, that he would announce it to everyone. Lucien has Leon's qi."

[Mathew Amtrum]

"Kyrie. What is a Dragon?"

This was Dragon 101!

A Dragon is so many things.

"A Dragon is the Person. Not the Name." She breathed out another exhale. "And is not something that is given up or cast aside."
