History Information
"The question that most people are too afraid to ask is how it happened. I was born this way- something called retinopathy of prematurity - or are, oh, pee. I just couldn't wait to say hello to the world that I forced myself out of the womb while, I guess, I was still underdeveloped. Does it suck? What, being blind?? Not really... I think it would suck if I had sight and then lost it, but I don't know life apart from, uhh, this. Yeah. Besides, there are a loooot of perks. Like my dog gets to go with me EVERYWHERE-- oh, by the way-- this is Burrito, my seeing eye dog. He's a Samoyed/Husky mix, whatever the hell-- oops, I mean heck! Whatever the heck that looks like.
As for home life, it's pretty good. Dad works for the government and he's gone every other month. Mom works as an engineering director. Stable home, high income family...I guess that's why my life is comfortable, since they make it comfortable- you know, with being blind and all. I have a lot of freedom though, probably because they're gone so much and they trust me with my grades. I went to a private school my entire life- that was comfortable too, since I didn't have to worry about what to wear with having a uniform. Yes, blind people think about that stuff too.
Anyway. Why 259? I'm not sure. Life was getting pretty boring. I hope I don't get beat up but I guess that's the risk I'm taking.
Wow. That's kind of sad. My life history told in a mere two minutes. Sorry, my life is kind of boring."
Seira Jae was born at 31 weeks and with retinopathy of prematurity. SJ was required to stay at the hospital in an incubator until she was fully developed- and was stuck in the PICU for several weeks thereafter because of a weakened immune system and ROP. This were hard for Matthias and Faith who were career driven individuals and first time parents, but nevertheless, the narrator likes to think that they did a pretty darn good job.
Both M and F learned braille with SJ as she was growing up and did their best to make life as smooth as possible for their little girl. When she was thirteen, she received Burrito (who she named because he was wrapped in blankets like a burrito when she first met him), a white Samoyed/Husky mix. You would think these parents would be those over-protective ones, but with her dad working higher up in the government, he didn't want to shelter his child and have her grow up as naive. Her mother, on the other hand, always felt a little iffy- so they compromised and she was sent to a private school all her life.
Private school was whatever. SJ didn't make too many friends because it was so cliquey and she didn't exactly fit in to any group. She didn't wear make up (even though her mother insisted on teaching her by feel) nor was she too extroverted... For the most part, she kept to herself. She had Burrito to accompany her anyway, so she wasn't that lonely.
When she went into high school, she begged her parents to send her to a public school. They said no. She kept begging, and begging, and begging... And then her parents said yes- but only for her last two years. So come junior year and what happens? She's enrolled at her private school! THE OUTRAGE. For an entire semester she pestered her parents and, realizing that they must stay true to their word, gave in.
But a blind girl ain't got no business going to #259. If her mom hadn't gotten a promotion to director and if her dad wasn't out of town, then they 100000% wouldn't have agreed to let her go to a school with corporal punishment. No, no, no.
Oh well.
UNCENSORED VERSION [NOT IN FILE]
"...yes. Please take good care of her."
"We will- you'll have nothing to worry about. Just... Just give us a heads up?"
The pale Asian woman nodded with sharp grey eyes despite having just given birth. Strands of long black hair were still stuck to her sweat-ridden skin- was it necessary to do this so soon? A slow, painful exhale. Her partner was in the far back corner of the room, grimacing privately at how the situation was panning out. This was their second time doing this; the "loss" of a second child- but it was for their own good.
"Please let her know when she turns 16. I'll come for her soon after."
