"Definitely." Even if she didn't have that versatility yet. Still, Brianna nodded, activating her eye again as Cillian continued his practice. "But that doesn't mean many do. I don't think I've seen someone use a whip."

The dragon poured its breath into the attack gain as Cillian's electricity pushed out from teh blade, the roar so loud Brianna was sure that someone else coudl surely hear it.

"Makes sense. A lot of people get kind of jumpy around swords and sharp weapons." She'd never heard of a weapon that could bind before unless that weapon was some kind of qi.

"My dad trained me with a sword first. We have a problem with qi beasts getting close to home sometimes, so it was the easiest. But before that, he made me a pair of brass knuckles." Because justice never sleeps, and doesn't always go for the fatal blow.

"Yeah, a lot of people don't know what it is anymore either. So it also doesn't raise alarms right away either. Knuckles are nice too, you can take those everywhere. Easy to use, hard to hurt yourself with them. You really are just a brawler aren't you?"

It still made him a little uncomfortable to think about, he had to keep reminding himself that it was different out here in the world. Still, he couldn't help the small frown that crossed his features.

"It's like watching a dragon breathe into the ground when you do that. It's really something." Brianna watched the attack again, shaking her head as she gave a small but proud laugh.

"Pretty much, though it's not that I don't like or use ranged. I'm just not as good with them. But it lets me get in close if I need to, or someone else does." She gave a wry grin. "Older brothers are good at that." She saw no problem being able to tussle and keep up - and surpass - the big guys back home. Now she felt more less like a big fish in a small pond and more like a ripple in an ocean.

"They taught me to be ready for anything. You can keep an enemy at a distance, but once things like qi get involved, it gets complicated. So they didn't want me at risk just because I didn't know how to handle myself."

He glanced back to the sword. That kind of taking focus from the talk of normal weapons.

"Does it seem angry in the ground like that? Or no difference?"

It was hard to tell what to think about it, he couldn't feel it's emotions if it had any. Or feel much of anything in connection to it on that level. He just had to trust her.

"I'd say aggressive," she decided after a moment. "I'm not sure if because it's still adjusting to you or something else, but it didn't really like me waving at it earlier." She shrugged, adding, "Who knows, maybe it's shy. But I think it is definitely a part of you - only you. I don't think it's that interestsed in others unless it's a threat maybe."

Back to normal conversation! It was hard not to feel like she was the only one seeing all this meant something was off. She wanted to know mor enow, to see what he could do and what the two could do. Maybe one day he'd hear the dragon, too.

"So who taught you all those weapons?"

"My Dad, some of the other knights and soldiers back home. I wouldn't say everyone gets as much training as I did. Certainly not most soldiers. But those of us slotted to be knights do."

He'd say, pulling the blade up and looking at it. Like he was trying to see what wasn't there.

Brianna would let Cillian try to look at his blade, the intent gaze making it pretty clear what his thoughts were. She folded her hands behind her head.

"You did say your dad was hoping you'd be a hero back at the academy. Big dreams, or family tradition?" She knew how it was sometimes; you had to carry on the family tradition or trade, whatever that may be. Especially ina world torn apart by war, it was the only way to really be remembered. For most people.

"Neither? Both? It's hard to explain, or I guess it's just weird to explain it to someone who hasn't grown up there. I'm already well known back home, and I've done my part to ensure our freedom and independence. By most accounts, I've earned my stripes, but that is the minimum of what is expected of me. Being a hero isn't enough. I'm expected to be an inspiration. An ideal for others to strive to and look up to."

He smiled sadly.

"A Legend."

Brianna saw nothing wrong with being a legend - she was goign to be one herself, some day. But the sadness on Cillian's face made her wonder if maybe he'd hit her head, or was sut shy. They'd talked about protecting home; why not be an inspiration to them if he wasn't already? It sounded like he should have been.

"And you don't?" Why in the world was this a problem for him?

"It's not really of if I want to or not. There is nothing wrong with aspiring to that. But to have that be the baseline expectation for you, for your life. It's kind of intimidating. Ya know? I mean, what if I can't do it? What if I'm not good enough? I mean, I don't really know what I'm doing, or how to be a legend or inspire people. There isn't really a guidebook on it. Ya know?"

She could see the sense in it; not everyone could be a hero or a legend. Some tried and failed, others came up out of nowhere. Nodding, Brianna considered the doubts that came to mind for him.

"I think that's part of it though - the difficulty that comes with the expectation. Besides, who the heck knows what they're doing here? We just got passed around by like, three different people to find someone who did know.

"Maybe find your own way of doing it? I think you're good enough - you're strong, you have good intentions, and if your energy is anything to go by - and it is - then you're a calm, reassuring person. Maybe focus on what you consider inspiring, even if your father doesn't think of it the same way?"
