Barker gives her a sideways glance.
"It's probably a good policy to follow. Secrets are dangerous. Discoveries are less so... Depending on the discovery."
He would continue the journey.
"There is an unknown amount of surviving experiments, and not all of my old labs have been cleared or checked. Which is why it's dangerous for them to exist."
Mitsoumi Huff's.
"And they are extremely bad at wizards chess."

"I can't imagine any one would be good at wizards chess. Live people second guess themselves in most dangerous situations unless you give them a caused to succeed or believe they'll falter, likely. When they are mindless chess pieces then that doesn't matter." she would say to Mitsoumi. Of course she didnt grasp the full gravity she of what might have actually went on in his games.
"Being afraid of Discovery is like being afraid of the unknown and thats just silly..." one of her own made up quotes to keep a skittish girl like herself on the forefront of life. "Still I certainly cant imagine discovering one of your old labs would be safe. My Qi didnt manifest until a few years ago, I cant imagine what strength one might have with such a strong Qi at Bailey's age."
She looked up at Barker her expression grew worrisome. Her trust in Barker seemed to be enough to embark on this journey, eat his food, and even allowing him to shake her hand. But how much was too much? Where should she draw the line? And at any point could she dive too deep?
Honestly going to one of the most dangrous Qi scars in the nation might be crossing that line.
"So what was the theory behind your work? While I know the past is the past... And I think the less I know the better... I want to ask what it could be you were trying to accomplish and why?"

"hm."
Barker mused her question while Mitsoumi stuck his tongue out at Oni, or maybe the baby. It would be hard to tell. However Barker would share.
"My generation unlocked Qi in our teenage years. High hormones and emotions... Generally something life threatening or extreme had to happen to even have the chance to manifest. Once it did we became curious and found out that monks had been training in Qi abilities for generations, famous historical figures with absurd stories of being seven feet tall and shooting lightning bolts from their eyes? More accurate than the history book telling the 'true story' because that was rediculous."
He explained.
"However we noticed one thing no one else did. As we fought for our own reasons people around us began tapping into the power. Slowly, but it was acting like an infection. The theory we had was scary, but made sense to us after observing the details for a few years. My peers and myself theorized that we could cause a ripple. Acting ourselves as the drop energy would spread and expand. Unlike a ripple in a pond this wave would only get stronger as it traveled. Unpredictably moving in an imperfect course person to person. Before all parts of the wave would converge upon a single person, the strongest point of the ripple as it closes around the globe... The perfect warrior."
He was still explaining. He knew to tell this story before going on to his own work since people continue asking stupid questions over the years if he just says something simple.
"However... It was not as... Dramatic as we had hoped. For example I was sixteen when my qi manifested, but I was 27 when students at the school I worked for began seeing a few qi users. So I went to chemical testing ND found the human being to be pliable... Manipulable like everyone was in a base setting waiting to be put into other settings. I used chemicals to force the settings to change. Making qi users artificially. After the first few were made it was like I threw a boulder into a pond. The wave had begun."
Barker would take in a long breath and sigh with his exhale.
"I got wrapped up in that theory so deep, wanted to see it myself and know I was right so bad... Only to find out I was wrong."

Oni hadn't noticed Mitsoumi's taunt while Barker spoke. She listened with great intent and was quite touched hearing about what happened. Touched at his honesty. It would be hard to admit for many the tragedy that was bred just to find he was wrong all along.
"I see, thats a lot to think about for sure." she even had her own thoughts to his story but it was hard to really put it into words. It also sounded remarkably similar to what Prota was accomplishing.
Also she was like him in the fact her Qi came later than most others in this day and age, frankly that made her feel a bit behind on the evolution train. But it didnt stop there either, she even would think of all the people he used to get his answer all their fights in vain and all his work just shut down. If this was the Barker she knew then it was hard to judge him on his past even if it is darker than she imagine.
"To say your theory was correct or more so not wrong without seeing your results I can only figure that as you fight stronger people it makes you stronger would this wave only make sense should we be evolving as a rapid rate because the world around us is also getting stronger? Thats not like a virus or wave but more so Determination and Survival. But to truly find the Perfect Warrior... would that imply that there is a limit to our capabilities?" she would grin.
"Call me what you like when I say this I know it will sound dorky; but I dont believe we have a limit. Like you said humans were manipulable but could that have just been adaptable?" she shrugged. "Still, if you've come to conclusion that you were wrong yourself, what did you truly find?"

"Ah, let me clarify then."
Barker would turn to say.
"The ripple theory is still in effect. I will not live to see it happen. I was wrong in my method. Artificial Qi does not contribute to it. All of my work and research there fore. Availed nothing. Exactly the same as what Prota is doing. They wish to find perfection, and it will not come from artificial change."
He'd nod.
"Humans as you say are adaptable, determination and will power breaks through limits all the time. But, everything reaches a point it can no longer advance. But the next generation will always surpass it. That is the truth of the perfect warrior. The next generation. That is the perfect warrior. The ripple will never end, because it has no direct course to converge on."

"Oh that makes sense." she adjusted the baby in her arms. "Hm... It is quite terrible the end result, but Bailey here she's... She'll be something good." she wanted that to sound possitive but she couldn't smile. "But it's too much to put on an infant through, truly." with a red finger she brushed asside hair from the baby's face. Her tail swayed comfortably behind her as she walked.
"So I've only read about Cousta B. but will it be safe for her or I? Assuming you and Mitsoumi do know you are strong enough to handle it?" she looked between the two.

"Actually miss Une, the roblem is that we are that strong."
Mitsoumi says mimicing Barker's serious face, voice, and physical mannerisms perfectly, before going back to his goofy self.
"Right Sean?"
Barker cringes at the reflection of himself before nodding.
"Yeah... Cousta Bojer is scarred by abilities of destruction, malific energy meant to kill, main and do damage. This left over emotion and energy acts like a buffer for Qi users making us stronger, however the stronger you are the more Cousta Bojer attacks you."
He would take a deep breath going over the ideas in his head.
"That's where baby Bailey comes in. She can deactivate the qi energy of everyone with her line of sight. To the point of completely eliminating any power they currently have in effect. Problem being she is a baby and does not have the stamina to do it for long."
Baby Bailey blows drool bubbles while giggling.

"Which I dont get... I keep hearing and reading that like it has a mind of its own?" she furrowed her brows. "I just kind if figured it sucks Qi away in its rapid current. Erosion, you know? I hear Dragons come here to endure it while training. Is Cousta Bojer an opponent rather than a weather condition?" could that make sense? She tried to ignore the artistic notion that the land itself would rear its ugly head and devour any that entered its territory. But could it be more accurate than what she gathered from her books?
She grinned at Bailey for a moment but it was short lived enough while her mind pondered what they were facing.

"I know a few philosophical individuals who have a similar line of thought. As though the earth has reacted to areas of damage done by concentrated qi by trying to kill those who did it harm. However I do agree that it should be viewed as an opponent. Not an enemy, or real even a natural weather phenomenon... But something to be over come.
Barker was nodding along as they went.
"You could say it's erosion, but it is the purest form of Qi, even beyond qi crystals. Qi is an energy influenced by emotion, intention, and need. Put all of that into a hundred, no, a few thousand of the most powerful Qi users into a field the size of a few city blocks. Have all that energy released at once with hate, intent to murder, need to survive. Keep this energy up for a few hours maybe more than a day in a single place..."
Barker would look back at Oni.
"That is Cousta Bojer. The raw definition of war burned into the very existence of our planet to ravage in a never ending cycle or hunger for destruction. Thousands of abilities mixed together with the only target being any living thing."

She adjusted an increasingly heavy infant in her arms. But otherwise she just listened, however when Barker finished speaking she found there was very little to reply for.
She blew a curl from her face. "Marvelous gift our ancestors gave us." sbe said sarcastically.

"Another thing you could probably blame on me. I fought in the battle of Cousta Bojer. I also died there."
He'd shrug as they continued their March, however it was getting dark.
"Should we set up camp?"

She nodded in agreement to the camp idea.
"Other than you standing here infront of me alive and well, of which I would like to hear that tale, what difference could you have held in a battle like that? With thousands of other people choosing to lay their lives on the line I cant imagine blaming just you for the creation of it just because you are the one here to blame." she shrugged. "War kind of happens, and it isnt like Cousta B. Wouldn't have happened if you didn't exist. Likely someone would have made a Qi scar like it if it wasn't you by this time as well."
she struggled to make her own connection to Barker's guilt like the storm wasn't effecting her directly or like she was apart it in any personal way. It must be the knew generation gap maybe? The fact she had no part or connection that she is aware of to Barker or Cousta Bojer made made her take things as they come at face value.

Barker would grin as Mitsoumi began setting up shop.
"It was to be a final climax to the war for power. At least for us. Rallying all my might against the resistance that I arrogantly allowed to build up in my shadow. I had power, agents, experiments, Titans, and the only person who could communicate with all of my bases around the world. I finally planned to snuff out the Dragons, Guardians, Crows, and God's. I assumed it to be a simple thing after reaching the final stages of my plan to rule the new world."
Barker chuckled as the last few words left his mouth barely holding in a laugh.
"But... I had not expected my allies to turn on me. I was stronger than the Dragons individually at the time, with a wide range of powers at my disposal. While the battle it's self was stalemated for a few days as the most powerful of each side came to blows between the common sludge. I found myself in one-on-one combat with Mathew Amtrum. We had a grand battle and in the end, I took his arm, and he had me in a tomb of Earth."
He shrugged.
"As I was working on getting free before he could iron maiden me a larger threat appeared out of no where. The threat I built my forces up to defeat. He appeared on the battlefield with his forces and killed me immediately. Forcing all sides to retreat from lack of information."
He shook his head.
"Spun my head just about clean from my neck."

She listened with a growing grin. Blissfully aware this like hearing what is a former villain telling of his down fall a valiant fight to the death. What she had expected was to hear of Mathew Amtrum create the final bloe for himself becoming the hero of the story. Alas that was not the case.
"Wait... A greater threat? Who? Also... Rude, was just rude of them to just swoop in like that after you were made vulnerable. Its like taking credit on an essay by publishing it in your name after the other person wrote the whol thing." her brow furrowed in disappointment over who ever this surprise enemy would be.

"John Strike and his fully realized Prota Government coming from a whole nother part of the North American Territories I had I thought secretly been betraying. Sadly it all fit in his plan and he was prepared."
He'd shrug as he got a rickety lawn chair out and sat it up.
"Mathew called it 'stealing his kill', but yes same concept."
